cabingal3 Member	# Posted: 28 Jan 2011 05:54am Reply will the economy as it is right now-deter u from moving to your property as soon as u first planned? are u cutting cost in your daily living expenses so u can have cabin building monies? would u ever use found objects/recycled /scrap wood and supplies to help get ur cabin up sooner?have u ever used scrap or recycled building supplies on the cabins u build? if u have one small cabin up already-what is your next step? are u planning on getting your social security payments as a way to supplement u living in the woods when u do move out there?

I am a 28 year old female in north Texas and had been looking at houses to buy because up until now I had only rented. I was looking to pay around 80k for a 1500 sq ft or bigger 3br house. When the economy dropped and I got laid off my expectations needed adjusting. So I reverted back to my childhood dream of building my very own small cabin. I bought 4.63 acres in the middle of nowhere and started building. I will be the only one in the group of all my early thirties or late 20s friends who will not only own my house outright. But that built the dang thing. I cannot tell you the sense of satisfaction that I get from having built something with my own two hands and that I will not be paying on for 30 years. Enough of my life story now.... Anyone else???? Love all my cabin buddies!

97Marlin	# Posted: 29 Jan 2011 11:01am Reply I purchased 26 acres last year as a means to eventually live more cheaply. The economy has made me rethink my values, and, eventually I shall build a cabin. Other posts have mede me think that it is wiser to build the cabin when I am on my land permanently, or, at least, more frequently that every 3-6 months--this is for insurance, or lack of it, as other posts have shown. I think that if you can get something that is recycled and can be put to good use, one should utilize it in the construction of one's cabin. However, if using said object(s) compromises the integrity of one's cabin, then it is better to utilize better materials that are not recycled. Social security--I wouldn't count on it! One must save for one's eventual retirement, especially the way society is today.

cabingal3 Member	# Posted: 29 Jan 2011 02:28pm Reply SmlTxCabin gal.this is a good story u have here.we are doing the same cause of the economy but it has been my life long dream to live in the woods or on a pretty big piece of land.where nature abounds and cheap to free.love it so.good for u. 97Marlin i think u are so right about s.s.-i heard it will not be available in 2030-ish.lets hope.i like what u say about the salvaging and such with building a cabin.
