I would think that if you are living off grid you would want to own a few other lighting options, either oil lamps, LED lanterns, or even candles.
I don't see many people opting for oil lamps as their back-up lighting source but I was quite impressed by the craftsmanship used in making this lamp when it was featured on the show "How it is Made".
It's a bit pricey, but I figure that this quality of lamp would be passed down through generations. I don't receive one single cent from any company or product I find and mention on this site but I don't understand the reluctance to allow people to see for themselves what is available for the off grid home.

There is only one person who can remove post. You cant mention it, even if its perfect for cabineers and off gridders? Not sure
Its interesting, because I mentioned where i got my cabin plans from and there wasn't an issue. It was an online place. So its a crap shoot I guess.

Quoting: rockies Why was my post on Danforth Pewter Oil Lamps removed? That was a link to an oil lamp for sale at $400+ ! On a quick look, it seriously looked like a spam.

Actually, it is $215. Still pricey, but after watching the show I was very impressed with the craftsmanship. There aren't many small companies left that hand craft traditional products for the home and I thought it might be worth mentioning.
While $215 is a lot of money I think this is the sort of item that is not only practical but also something that would be passed down through generations.
I also like that the oil they use is odorless and smokeless (I don't know if that is a concern for other members).
So, since it's not spam, here it is again:

If other members use other makes or models of oil lamps I'd like to hear about it.

Very nice lamps, but I did not see any mantle lamps. That surprised me a bit, just because I would expect very high end lamps to offer this option, since it gives off so much more light. Could be patent issues.
Anyway very nice looking oil lamps. Too pricey for my budget, but reasonable enough for many who want their accoutrements to have a certain look.

If there is a bit of text with posted links, it's helpful. I rarely open a link if there isn't a summary of what is being shared. I suspect spam unless I recognize the poster. I'm also not that curious if I don't know what it is... I can see how a posting of a "naked" link could be removed.
If it's worth sharing, it's worth a summary.

Actually, I've had less of a need for alternate or backup electrical sources in the 10 years I've been off grid than in the many previous years when I was living in town and grid connected. Every so often the grid goes down here or there or all over the valley. I can sit up on my ridge and see the place go dark while my lights are still on.
However, I have a large assortment of Lion powered lamps and flashlights for just in case. Those are kept charged by solar, no need to buy fossil fuels at all.
