I got a new hand me down desktop PC and and am saving the hard drive out of my old one. Before I junk the rest, I've heard of salvaging things like magnets, fans and what not for other projects. Any other good stuff?

Depends on how old you old one was and whether it is something proprietary like the slim Dell desktops, or a generic ATX case. Also depends on how much building of the PCs you normally do. If it's not too old, you can probably sell something on the ebay.

There's gold and other precious metals in there- some people actually make money by ripping out the circuit boards and extracting the metals- but of course you have to do hundreds of PCs before it's at all profitable, then you have to dispose of your toxic waste- which is why most of it is done in China....

I made a small fan for moving air around in a cabin I used to live in with a salvaged computer fan.
