just wondering how many are building a place in the woods for retirement,or just a place to camp or somewhere to go if times in the cities get too unbearable?

Yes...err, all of the above. Already live in a suburban setting but hate the traffic, ignorant people, etc. We use our mountain property as a getaway on weekends & vacations. Am on the grid, but am taking steps to be independant if something goes BOOM, or the government messes up. Plan to move there on a permanent basis in 10 yrs or less & enjoy retirement.
edit for speeling-lol

Depending on the real estate market, I will be retiring on my land or I will be retiring on the money I get from selling the property.
For now, it's a campsite. Next year I will have my cabin on the property. In 5 years I hope to have a small 3 bedroom house complete enough to live there full time and sell my city house

Ours is a camp for us now.. the kids sleep in tents and we have an old trailer that just stays there.. we are working towards a cabin and some small 'huts' for the kids.. this will start to happen next spring/summer :) this year was get the land cleared and figure out what we have to work with... :)
Retirement is so far away, :( lol, no idea if I will retire there..
