Hummm, almost sounds like an episode of Fargo. In the middle of winter, how in the world does this guy from Tampa, Florida, end up broken down on a short, twisty highway in rural Ohio that starts and ends in the middle of nowhere?

As someone who's now spent several winters here, let me tell you, it's a Florida thing, trust me. It's a different lifestyle here, very different... And it travels with the nomads...

The truck driver is actually lucky the would-be thief wasn't armed and didn't take him out first when he got out of his truck.
If my son and/or I see someone along a roadway who appears to need help, we call the emergency number on the back of our driver's license and send help. Nowadays, it's too risky to stop, sorry to say. You just don't know if it's legitimate or not.
We've reported brush fires, stranded vehicles, and once even someone who was driving very erratically for a prolonged period. Don't know if the guy was rip-roaring drunk or having a medical emergency.
