My wife laughs every time I talk about building something at our camp. She says it's like I'm a kid again and I'm building a fort . It's like that in many ways. Even last weekend sleeping in our tent without the fly so we could see the stars brings back childhood .

I really want to build a high tower platform. Something about being up 20-30ft in the air on a deck that frees the spirit.

I'm thinking about a 120 sq ft octagonal gazebo type thing, perhaps walled in with windows, on a hillside overlooking a forested draw. Peaceful place to just sit.
Works out that a true octagon at 12 x 12 feet is just under 120 sq ft, the legal limit for a building with no permit.

I am in the plans of adding on a 12x12 laundry connected to the deck adjacent to our bedroom. Decided to make a second floor office above that. Told my wife about the idea and she said "ah, he wants a big boy fort, ain't that cute..." That was a week ago. lol

Be careful. Our plans started with a bath house for an off-grid location. Later in the planning stage we thought about adding a small bedroom. Soon it expanded to a 500sf camp with a kitchen and bathroom, and a 120sf loft. If we hadn't built when we did, I am sure there would have been another bedroom or two.

I'd love to have a gazebo, for hanging out in and yard camping. Thought about a tower, but don't really need one here.
I have a couple books with pics of some extremely cool gazebos and a fire tower. They are loaned out of course,...
If you look up Yellowstone Traditions site, and their "projects" section, look at the Whitefish Lake residence for a cool gazebo. The Paradise Valley place has a nice fire tower, but not the same one I was recalling from the books.
