I'm so excited, we finally get to go back to the cabin and introduce our 5 week old daughter to the "cabin life" and something tells me she's gonna LOVE it!!!

It has been 2 months since we've last been for a visit. We are hoping everything is how we last left it. When longer stretches of time go by between visits I'm always a little anxious about what we may find when we get there- but I suppose that is normal

Anyways, I'm excited to pack! Little Noelle will get to wear her red and black buffalo plaid PJ's with her little white one-piece thermal long johns underneath (I couldn't resist!). She has her "lumberjill" blankets that are soft and snugly and even matching burp cloths! She may sleep the weekend away, but she'll look adorable doing it!!!

Did I say I'm excited????????

Hi Trollbridge - Slightly belated but congratulations on the new addition! I'm sure she will love it at the cabin (may not show it much for a few years but think of the great times ahead).

I know what you mean by being a bit anxious. I closed up our unfinished (no siding, insulation etc) build late in the fall and will not be back up until spring to recommence work on it. Lots of snow this year so I suppose it will be a good test of my limited construction skills!

Have fun!

I was up at my place yesterday working on the walls while the dog enjoyed herself. Very little snow, about an inch with ice under it, made walking interesting!

Hi razmichael!
You must be looking forward to getting back in the spring I'm sure your beautiful cabin will be just fine...it looked strong and sturdy! Lol. Will you be using your cabin during winter months in the future when it is more finished?

Hi to you too Dillio!
I can't believe you only have an inch of snow ! The snow cover map for our area is showing more than that but I hope it isn't so much that we can't drive in. If there is a snow pile at the end of the driveway, along the road, we may have to walk in...hope there is no ice!
What are you doing with your walls? Finishing them? You weren't playing hooky from work were you

Although we will be insulating it it is doubtful we will be using it in the winter. We are very lucky in that we live in the country on 60 acres (pasture for the horses, woods, rocky crest behind us and a view of large hills/small mountains). Up until a few days ago when it rained, we had loads of snow to snow shoe and cross country ski on. The land where we built the cabin was purchased by my father 40 years ago. Being lakefront property it provides a different set of joys more related to the water. It is somewhat ironic that we have closer neighbors at the lake than we do at home.

Oh cool! We live in the country too, but on 3 acres, so we have neighbors but not too close. It's nice. It is smart of you to insulate even for 3 season use. It will help keep you cooler in the summer and if you ever do go in the winter or sell some day, you'll be happy you did

It's funny what you remember as a little kid . . . it seems like every time (probably only twice) when we went to the cabin in the spring, we'd open the door, all stand peering in from the threshold (think the scene in Christmas Vacation with the squirrel), and send the dog in first to roust out any pack rats or mice. Some of my most vivid memories of the cabin growing up were, my brother shooting a pack rat INSIDE the cabin after the dog had chased it up a wall. He hit it, put a hole in the wall in the process, and blood dripped down the wall . . .BIG excitement! rats, guns, blood . . . LOL. . . the second memory was throwing the door open, dog goes in and out comes the damn rat toward us at hte door! The dog grabbed it before it made the great out doors. . . one bite and it was done . . . again, more blood . . . LOL . . . my poor mother spent the rest of the weekend bleaching everything! After that my dad and grandpa capped the chimney and plugged every hole . . .haven't had even a mouse in over 40+ years, but that thought still comes to the forefront of my mind when I turn that key and open the door.

OMG...dare I say, I almost forgot how much I LOVE getting away to the cabin!!!

Trip up and back-great, uneventful and not a peep from Noelle the whole time-she slept every minute of both directions!

Barely any snow so we just drove right in-perfect! A quick glance around and we noted out loud that no trees had smashed the cabin nor did anything seem to be out of place.Husband opened front door of cabin and had no experiences like Montanagirl-LOL!!! Got generator and kerosene heater going and made a fire in wood stove. It was 18 degrees in the cabin...but by the 70,000 BTU kerosene heater it was toasty warm!

Mostly relaxed and enjoyed watching Noelle-she really was interested in watching the pine trees swaying in the wind outside. We napped together by the wood stove while Mr. Troll built a wall up in the loft and plowed snow with his tractor.

A cold front moved in by late afternoon and the temperature plummeted down to minus 13 during the night. We burned through quite a large amount of wood!

With sub zero temps, my husband decided to make good use of time and cut out a styrofoam toilet seat for the outhouse! Word is it worked really well and actually felt warm to the "touch" Too bad I forgot to pack T.P. -oops, I had to hear a lot of grief for that one.

I'll have to try and get pictures on the computer tomorrow. I am excited to go back and pleased at how easy it was staying at the cabin with a very young baby I think she's excited to go back as well!!!!

Thanks I can't wait to go back! I look forward to watching Noelle explore the cabin and woods as she grows. I enjoy having little ones there - our grandchildren, and now our baby daughter.

Here's her reaction to watching that BEAR VIDEO you posted Hattie. LOL!

and what her reaction was to wearing red and black buffalo plaid! I think she may prefer pink...don't you?!

Welcome Noelle! And so glad to hear things went well for your delivery. Also glad to hear you made it back to the cabin. Break Noelle in early, she has a lifetime to enjoy it.

Wish there was some way to bookmark cabin pics from all my friends here. Sometimes tough finding your little cabin building blogs after the fact.

Thank you we went up again this past weekend. Got about an hour from home and Noelle blew out her diaper requiring a full change of clothing! The cooling fan on our second heat source broke so it took longer to get the cabin warmed up, but once it was Noelle got to lounge around in just her onesie underwear- which she seemed to really enjoy! I got to play with those cute little toes and rub her (getting) chubby little legs . It may sound funny, but it is something I haven't really been able to do except during bath time. It is too chilly during the winter at home without a woodstove. This is the first "winter baby" we've had-she's dressed warmly, and I've kinda missed seeing her skin.
