Anyone got a 10 / 22? What kind of scope do you have on it?

This is one of those things where if 6 guys answer you get 7 different opinions.
I have a Nikon P22 (2-7x 32mm) on one that is basically stock with the Ruger target barrel and another with a Burris Fullfield II (3-9, 40mm) that has a Shilen match barrel.
The Nikon is a great scope; the Burris a little brighter with better contrast. I do favor the Burris but only on the better barrel.

MtnDon hit the nail on the head! There should be tons of opinions since the Ruger 10\22 is so popular.
A scope for a 22 doesn't need to cost a lot. Mine still has the cheap $20 floor model the saleswoman threw in as a bonus. I think it's a Barista. Plenty good enough to hit tight 3" groupings at 50 yards which is more than adequate for most needs.

Even your store brands from Bass Pro or Cabela's will work well. No need to spend much coin.

I spent the $$ as there is a difference in clearness, eveness of edge to edge brightness, color, contrast, how critical it is to center your eye, the amount of eye relief, etc etc.
The best thing for each individual to do is to have a good look through different ones in the range of prices. Then make some kind of a compromise between your eyes and your wallet. The age of the eye is a factor; we need considerably more light than younger ones.

A fixed 4X or the 2X7 like Don said. I have a 3X9 and the scope is to much for the range of thew little 22.
Stay away from those real cheap fixed 4X units for $9.99.

I have a cheap Wally-World BSA Red Dot site on my 10/22. Where I hunt semi-automatics like the 10/22 are not legal, so all I do with my 10/22 is use it for plinking. It's the only red dot I have, so it's fun and novel for what it is- a can shooter.

Thanks for the tips gang.
I am buying it for plinking, garden patrol, and small game hunting. I like the 40 mm size and variable and thinking $50-$75 range.

Very good points. The cheap scope on my 10/22 requires just the right eye position or all you will see is black. I have shot it so much that it is second nature to bring it into position.
I have also use a 22 that had a scope like you would use for deer hunting mounted. At first I thought it was over-kill but the clarity was amazing!
