Since our cabin is small (12 ft. X 16 ft.) we have been considering trading our two fold up twin beds and regular chairs for futon chairs that would do double duty and save space. All I can seem to find are chairs in the $300-$500 range that are way too fancy for our simple shack. I would appreciate any leads or advice to help us out. Thanks!

If you have any wood working skills you may want to consider a Murphy Bed kit. The price fluctuates a bit, but they can be found on the internet for around $100. I've looked but there doesn't seem to be any already built that aren't high dollar and kind of fancy. I have trouble seeing anyone able to easily pay a couple thousand dollars for such a thing wanting such a thing.

Thank you, Brknarow! We already have the steel frame fold up twins that rest against a wall. I'm afraid a Murphy bed would take up the same real estate/floor space in our cabin and have to be in a permanent place. Another issue would be that our boys sleep out too, so sleeping together on a double bed wouldn't be too popular with them.
I can build something, so if anyone has futon chair plans, that would work too.

we went to a yard sale and got the nicest futon for so cheap with the mattress.we have this in our cabin still.its been built up a bit cause it was so hard for us.i found some really costly foam in the other trailer on our property and bleached and washed it out by hand and stuck it in the sunshine to dry.we put this on too and i got an egg crate foam mattress too to put on top of it all .now it is so comfy.all for so cheap.we go to yard sales and find alot of cheap cheap stuff.good luck

When we were living in Paris, the small apt we rented had a Murphy bed and when folded up, it took up surprisingly little space. Maybe a little over a foot out from the wall. I was also amazed at how comfortable it was.

After seeing how comfortable the bed is in our current RV with what amounts to simply a mattress on top of plywood, I am really considering going with the Murphy in our bedroom when we build our place.

Ha, ha. I apologize for being new and not explaining myself well enough. I want to be able to remove two folding twins beds and two chairs and use futon chairs instead. We use our cabin for many things, including my painting studio in the summer. I move furniture around a lot and every square inch of floor space is precious. Where our few pieces of furniture are placed depends on the season, activity and length of our stay. I don't want to commit to a permanent placement of beds (or anything else), so I'm afraid Murphys are out for me, albeit they are cool in most applications.
Once again, sorry for not being clear.

Welcome!
Question for you- When you say futon chairs I am thinking you want 2 chairs and not a futon couch. Is that correct? If so, would those foam "fold and flip" chairs that convert to beds work for you? I believe they sell at WalMart.com for not too awfully much.

Thanks, Trollbridge. Yes, that's kind of what I had in mind. Chairs, not a couch which convert into beds. Moving them around and putting them in different places would be a big plus. Appreciate the tip, I'll take a look at those.

Here is a photo I saw on another cabin site which gave me the idea. The chair/bed looks pretty basic, but I haven't been able to find one like it. All of the chair/bed/futons on the internet are more finished furniture looking.

And, thanks for the welcome. Much appreciated!

You are very welcome. The picture reminds me of something you may find at an IKEA store. Good luck on your search!

Thanks, Steve. I found that frame on Amazon yesterday. The other two are new to me. I appreciate the info.
