So, Mtn Don's latest gun song got me fired up, and I been thinkin lately: what gun/guns would y'all take to your cabin if there were 'some kind of disaster' and you could only take a couple or three?
I think my handgun would be the .357. I like wheelguns y'know no jams, pull the trigger and go, the wife can shoot it, you can use .38's in it..etc..
A shotgun for defense and hunting.
And my Ruger Mini 14 for a major firefight or something serious....
Anyone else care to opine?

#1 AK47, #2 12ga shotgun, #3 Glock model 22.
If I wasn't limited to 3 I'd also take a 30-06 and a Sig-556.

Definitely a 12 gauge shotgun. Then probably a 30-06 for hunting bigger game, and an AR or AK in case it really hit the fan.

Oh dear. Three's the limit? !!! Okay let's try...
Love my Taurus titanium framed 45LC for a handgun. It goes everywhere Also love the Browning Hi-Power 9mm and the Buck Mark 22LR for pure fun ??? It would be hard to have to grab only one; probably the 45LC
Mossberg 550 with 18.5 barrel and Federal reduced recoil 2.75 shells, 00 buck. Well that was easy. :)
Puma 92, lever action, 454 Casull. Also shoots 45 LC. Lyman 66 peep sight. Or maybe the Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70.
Antone see a trend here... bigger bullets make bigger holes....
If I could have a fourth... and if I wanted something for longer range and deadly at the same time my old, but very cherry, Mauser 8MM bolt gun.
But then there's also..... :(

Nice to see some gun chatter! benelli super black eagle Marlin 30-30 and my Sig pistol
Anyone shoot ghost sights? I hear they are more poplular outwest and I want to put some on my 30-30 I dont love scopes and in upstate NY reaching out past 200 is not that often. I love my lever action. Big fan of wheel guns, debating on a .22 to shoot cheaply or a .38 as my next purchase. Sorry didnt mean to hijack the thread, gun guys like talking guns though.

Like the OP I'd go with my .357 S&W revolver, Mossberg 500 12 Ga. pistolgrip in a shoulder scabbard, but for a long gun I would have a Ruger 77/357: Bolt Action along with a Lee Classic Loader so that any .30 caliber ammo I found could be recalibered (assuming I remembered to pick up my .357 casings.)

Quoting: bhebby Anyone shoot ghost sights?
The Lyman 66, and other model aperture or peep sights, are somewhat like a ghost but usually have a smaller hole at the rear sight position I use a large aperture when not target shooting. The small peep is more accurate for targets but slower to acquire the target. Aperture sights are particularly good for aging eyes. Excellent sight for woods shooting. There is a guy that even makes diopter lenses to fit the rear aperture for people with vision issues. As it's only a single glass it is even legal for competitive shooting.
I can shoot much better with an aperture sight as compared to standard iron sights.
The 454 with Lyman aperture sight. The rear sight disc screws out. There are a couple different sizes. With no disc it is very much like a ghost.

BTW I have a mount for the Mauser that easily replaces the mauser rear sight with no damage or permanent changes to the rifle, I have a Bushnell Elite 3200, 2 - 6X long eye relief pistol scope with 32 MM objective. Looks odd but shoots well.

Just three, Ok , a .45, 1911 of course, (though a P85, or sig 226 would work for a carry piece though I am not a 9 mill fan) For fun use a 22, maybe a 10/22 though a old bull barrel bolt action, clip fed bruno is a fun play piece, and will put small game on the table For serious use the mini but I am not a fan, the noise is bad, the muzzle flash in that short barrel destroys my night vision. I might switch the mini for a simple single shot 45/70 ( maybe a TC) as I dont miss much, and there is just nothing to hide behind when 400-500gr slug is saying hello. Mtndon, that looks like my 6.5 swiss Mauser you have.

I'm probably cheating, I live in my cabin, and don't plan on going anywhere.
The disasters I can realistically foresee dont involve fiefights. I'm happy with good Winchester leverguns and bolt action sporters, which will also take care of any (to me) realistic defensive situations.
Never had much use for shotguns.

MtnDon- I am either going to put some ghosts on my 336 marlin or I have a sweet ol winchester pump rifle in .35 rem. I hunt woods for the most part so over 200 is a poke for me. Thanks for the info I am going to look those up. I saw a brand made from brass that I liked but I cant seem to find it now.

#1 Marlin 45/70. #2 270 bolt action #3 Marlin semi 22. The 22 just because it is cheap to shoot. The 45/70 will stop anything in North America when loaded with Buffalo Big Bore rounds. May problem is what would I do with the other guns I have!

I have never been into shows like that, but our son got us stuck on this one. Which, naturally, had us talking about stockpiling ammo, and promising to shoot each other in the head if something like that happened. Going to go get a couple cases of ammo for the AR, I think. Just. In. Case.

I have so many, but if I was limited ot just 3, it would be my Sig 556 or Colt M4, then my Sig P229 (trijicons and crimnson trace lazer) and then a hunting rifle, probably my Winchester Model 70 in 300 WIN MAG.
556 is great for defense, pistol for personal protection and the rifle for putting meat on the table or taking out a long range threat.

I have to admit to a dilemma as to choice.
The 45LC handgun stands as a choice. And I'll cheat and say my wife goes with me and she gets her three choices. Or is it three per family unit?
So maybe the 9MM Hi-Power is her choice.
The shotgun stands; short barrel, defense, long barrel = turkey
The 454 levergun stands as a practical gun for my location and because it shoots the 45LC as well as the 454. 454 can take any game we have in the woodsy and mountainous terrain.
The Mauser was chosen by a random file selection. It's one of many historical long guns we have.
Here's a couple images that should illustrate my dilemma.... taking an AR is a given.... which one? 7 of these lowers are assembled in some sort of variant, ranging from a circa 1969 that is all original and era correct (except for a NoDak lower in place of the original auto M16 style. And up to an M4 replica. some AR parts.....
| 9 NoDak AR receivers and 1 10/22... they had a discount on 10 receivers

For bugging out if SHTF happens.. A .22 rifle, and a bow.. All the small game you can catch, and not very loud. Cheap ammo, will protect you from zombies.. The bow for larger game, and when you need to be stealthy.

I already have three long guns at the cabin:
Savage .22 LR bolt action Mossburg 20 gauge Remington 30-06 semi-auto
I also have a stash of ammo for all three as well as .223 and magazines for my AR that is at home.
