We are trying to install a kerosene furnace for back-up heat. The problem is when we hooked up the flue pipe for the outside instead of the air drawing out it keeps drawing in and blowing out the flames. What are we doing wrong? the pipe size is 6" Should we reduce it? How high should we go with the pipe. Anyone with any knowledge please help!!!!

I'm no expert on this, but here's my advise.
Flue should match the size of the outlet from the furnace and probably extend 2' above the highest point of the roof within 10 feet.
Good luck. Tom

Martian is right on the flue; keep the size the same as the outlet ring. That applies to any furnace / wood stove; the manufacturer figured out what was required. The height can make a real difference especially if there are/were winds blowing over the roof. Is the inlet for the combustion air free of obstructions; maybe it's 'snuffing' out rather than being blown out? Or maybe the inlet draft is blowing the flame out?
