Hey everyone!! Hope everyone is doing well!!
If you didn't notice i've been MIA for the last year or so. I decided to make some life changes late last summer/early fall and with that came alot of changes in day to day life. I'm a month away from everything being finalized in the eye of the court, but just late last week I was finally able to reach an agreement w/ my soon to be ex-wife for me to "buy her out" of her half of the cabin and property. Makes me sick to my stomach to have to pay for something I already own free and clear, but at least it's mine now and not sold to some stranger!
Anyways, no progress has been made at the cabin since last May or so. Been busy selling the house, excess toys, etc. on top of finding a new place to stay and whatnot.
But the wheels are back to turning on projects for this spring and summer to hopefully get the inside of the cabin wrapped up.

Welcome back Willie!
It’s funny, this morning I was checking out the ‘how old are you’ thread for some reason
https://www.small-cabin.com/forum/8_10313_0.html
And saw your name in there, amongst us old geezers that are still around. If you’re a newer member put something in it.

I don’t have any pics but we have leaned pretty hard into the cow/farm decor given our proximity to the dairy farm and the agricultural history of our property and the greater area.

Separation & Divorce - The Great Life Enema. Once it's all done & dusted the relief will come. Might still take a while. Cutting Lumber & Bashing in nails to build something nice IS Therapy so Build man BUILD !

Thanks everyone!
Honestly, the day to day life hasn't changed a ton. We had grown apart so much the last few years that I did most of my hobby stuff (the cabin being one of them) alone anyways.
We listed and sold the house for cash in 1 day, and I didn't have much attachment to that. Ended up finding a small rental house less than 2mins from work. My son is 17 and he stays by me every other week. Between school, work and his social life the amount of time i actually get to spend with him hasn't changed much at all. He knows he can come and go freely by each of our homes. Sold our 2 newer ATV's along with my flatbed trailer (which was a PITA to haul w/ my Jeep Gladiator anyways). The 2 older atv's, tractor, etc. I was able to keep as part of the cabin deal.
Overall things have been very amicable and neither of us are using lawyers, so we've avoided that expense. The cabin was the only real hangup and that was primarily because my offer to buy her out was with additional 401k funds instead of liquid cash.
Anywho, can't wait to make some progress with the cabin as funds replenish! Gotta be budget conscious going forward!

It is hard to catch up on a forum unless you aren't doing much of anything other than forum surfing. We found our place in Aug 2019 and bought it in Aug 2020. I thought the 16x24 (2012 build) sawmill slab rough cabin would be a nice putter away and fix-er-up. Not SO, too much wrong and I haven't been able to keep the Devil Red Squirrels out. I realized last fall that at 71 I don't have a build in me anymore. So we contracted a 12x28 milled log cabin prebuilt, have to tear down the shack and Move In; hopefully by this months end. There, now we are pretty much caught up

So your new place is 12 wide and the old one 16? Might take a little getting used to. Mine is 16 and a good thing it is with all the stuff against the side walls. But you do have that long length.

Our 1st cabin/build in '83-'84 was 12x24 with a stand up 12x12 loft. We had that with satisfaction for 30+ years And yeah, this one story 16x24 has been a nice size but we couldn't get a prebuilt to move in, it would have had to be a build. The new 12x28 will be kind of a return to yesteryear but without the need to climb into a loft (not a good thing for either of us anymore). The many big windows are going to make it seem more expansive too.

Heh, no, not done. I've been taking forever finishing the drywall, and doing other things as well when we've been up there. We've backed off the trips to the cabin this year to try and regain some sanity, but that of course will slow down the progress more. Ah well, still progressing! I'll have to post an update soon!
