Last night it dropped to 14 F, the first night this fall that it got below 31 F

Humidity is high but no rain or snow. Frosty trees though. That's a nephew's yurt in the meadow.

Thats a big drop from the 31*, is that unusual for this seasonal shift?
What kind of winter temps do you typically have?
We have ice on the little koi pond out front and the lovely yellowed poplars (WI 'aspens') are doing a heavy leaf drop this morning. 9am and its still 27*, dont know what it got down to. I Gotta mulch mow today!
I just got the fish out 4 days ago and into their winter tank in the coldest corner of the basement, been doing this for 20? years. They winter well but it takes an overall day of work to pump, pull plants, net fish, transfer, etc. and the b-ment 80 gal tank has to be prepped with a bucket of the pond water and a fill a min week ahead. I try to transfer with the outside pond water and inside tank water at similar temps.
All that to say that I dont want to wait too long or that water is COLD (btdt!).

The weather has been unusual this month. We had about three weeks that were warmer than normal. Until Saturday I had been working outside and wearing just a short-sleeved t-shirt half the time, a light long-sleeve overshirt others. The lows had been in the mid to high forties. Lows in the teens would not usually come till later in November unless a surprise early snow swept through.

Last night the forecast included a possibility of a quarter inch of snow with a low of 9 F. Neither happened but it was quite cool as mentioned.

Even in December, it is more or less normal to have lows in the 20s or low 30s with highs in the mid to upper 40s, maybe 50s. Jan & Feb would usually see some lows in the teens and it would not be unusual to have highs maybe, in the mid 30's. Single-digit lows in late January to mid-February are common. Very uncommon to drop below zero. Snow accumulation is hard to predict. In the past 10 years or so, most years I have been able to drive up once a month if I time the lulls between storms okay. Last winter was a big snow winter though; the most snow in decades with no way in except snow shoes or a snow machine.

When I left today I winterized the plumbing just in case and cleared out anything that could freeze and be damaged or cause damage. The plan is to return near the end of the week. It appears it may be cold and dry, but that changes.

Boy, I wish WI was mild like that! But we are waayyy up here with Canada to Da Nort. That Canadian Trough dives down into us and its Cold!
I need to dump my 2x50gal. water barrels soon, thats it for winterizing my 'plumbing', lol. Good reminder to check my back-up food box for freezables.
We are usually good thru Nov for snow not too deep to drive in without 4wd, but no promises, and no place to park out on the narrow town road if the snow plow piles the berm into my drive entry.
It is absolutely beautiful there with heavy frost or light snow!

I love winter at the cabin. Amazing quiet. We spent a lot of good times there when snow covered the ground. Sometimes 3+ feet of snow. We would snow shoe in about 1-1/4 miles using an abandoned logging road. We had lots of firewood, solar electric and lots of propane left there in fall. Plus clothes. The underground cistern had available water. Some canned foods were kept in a pit with an insulated cover and would never freeze. We stocked assorted dry foods and packed in some fresh foods. Great times that I miss. I didn't go up at all last winter. I should this year.

It was warm up until October 24. We woke to see this! I hadn't planted my garlic yet or screened the compost. Today we did manage to get the compost screened to use in the spring for planting tomatoes, but still haven't planted the garlic. I am hoping it will warm up this week.

58*f here in WI with the sun on the W thermometer, lol. Opening day of our gun deer season, some shooting heard but thin as has been usual for some years now. We dont hunt anymore...sleeping in this morning instead of getting up before dawn to go out was very nice
Come Tues night it looks like we get The Can. Trough, nights will be in the high teens for a good while; but it is past the middle of Nov.

ICC.... I think we are NE of you, over Cumbres pass. Took a few more hours but we finally got a bit of snow late yesterday afternoon. Just enough to cover the ground. Supposed to start again later today and snow overnight until the wee hours. Still not forecast for more than a couple inches.

I didn't put the tracks on the Geo Tracker this year, but got the snowmobile ready to roll if needed. We are snowbirding early this year, leaving the Monday or Tuesday after Thanksgiving headed to our place in Payson, AZ. Will be the first year in 5 years we should be able to pack up here at the cabin and drive out... instead of ferrying everything a mile down the hill to the main road. I might get spoiled!

Lakes been frozen for nearly a month. And we have nearly 2' of snow. Record snow fall for November. And it's 20 below zero right now. Sure glad I like winter

I believe that is about right. We lost most of the snow to some temperatures in the high 30's and rain. I don't think this will amount to much.
