Until we get back to the cabin.....
My wife just got a total new rt knee today; all went well and I should be able to bring her home tomorrow. It has been bad enough she couldnt walk our perimeter trail around our 9ac or really do much. She IS motivated!
Since Im the primary care-giver and rehab 'coach'/driver/gofer it might be a while until I can get an afternoon cabin trip.

There has been amazing advancements in replacement surgery... My dad had a hip replacement 7 years ago. He was laid up for almost 3 months. He had the second one done 6 months ago. No bullcrap, but he was walking around in 2 weeks. Pretty much normal in 5 weeks.

I really hope your wife is the same story!

She IS motivated!

That's good. Motivation is key. Early and consistent rehab is really important for knee surgery recovery. Don't let her slack off. Good luck with everything.

I wish you both well (more for your wife), as you will need each other to get through it. Her motivation and determination, and your care, patience and understanding her recovery process. I’m an X-Ray Tech and have been in the OR for many arthroplasty surgeries. Advancements have indeed been incredible. I myself had a “left medial compartment arthroplasty” (partial knee replacement). I checked into the hospital at 6:30am, and later that day walked from the car back into my home on my own at 14:00!

Hope she makes a full and fast recovery.

Where there's a will there's a way. My wife hasn't walked in 35 years, She's at the cabin anytime I am, right from milling the first beams.

Well, from what I've read on this forum, all of you are amazing people. Gcrank1, best of luck on her recovery. My wife is a physical therapist that treats post surgery patients immediately after surgery of this type to help them on there way to recovery post op. She says the best surgeons have them out of there in a day and walking again in no time. Hopefully she had a good one. Precisely follow all recovery protocols and she should come back better then ever.

Best of luck.

Thanx all for the well wishes
She had a fair rough evening last night, likely a pain med for the op, then, of course, when she would 'just get to sleep' they would come in and check her out.
This is her first real consequential surgery so lots of new experiences for her. Im an old hand at this stuff.
Today she was up before 7, washed up and prep'ed for me to show. We did a PT 'training session' together, had lunch and out before 2pm. She climbed the 13 stairs (in two fights) up to our house with some difficulty, but did ok. She is very competitive and motivated. 1st outside PT is Fri morning.
Btw, she says the joint itself doesnt hurt, its all the tissues around it that do.

Its been a rough couple of days for her but she is bitting the bullet and grittin' through, only taking the pain Rx 1 at a time when really bad, otherwise its the 2 Tylenol every 4 hrs.
Had the 1st PT yesterday, gal thought she is doing great for this soon. It will be 2x/wk for more than a fair bit.
Today she is better, more mobil and getting more inclined to be independent. Its a cool beautiful day, Im going outside to do more fall prep for winter work.

Been a week + now, she is decently house mobil/indepentant with the walker. Ive been given leave to make a cabin run. I'll be heading out shortly (45min drive if I didnt have to make a couple errand stops).

Sounds like she's on a Good Mend and I wish her a speedy recovery. I'm still pumping an Antibiotic IV and the latest catscan's are depressing but I am still doing far better than before.

She does have the highs/lows with this sloowww recovery; it wears one down, doesnt it. Fortunately she is a 'can-do'/'glass is half-full' person.
It was only 54*f on the shady side and the cabin inside was like a meat locker. Sunny, hardly any wind, I was down to my flannel shirt in little time, comfortable in the sunshine working outside. I had a productive afternoon, drained the utility rain barrel, packed up the canned goods and stuff that needed to come home but most important got some of the new to me diesel tractor winterizing maintenance done. Found the primary fuel filter (right at the tank outlet) about 1/4 full of water! Kinda miserable to get at but got it done. Winter fuel additive too. Had a large, likely buck, red squirrel scolding me while I worked. Ive thinned that genus population by 23 in the past 18months or so.....hate to, but they tear things up and used to live in the cabin when we bought it.
Thoughts and prayers often for you Steve.

Update, its been now more than 3mo., long out of rehab because she was ahead of the curve and she is doing great, walks 1-1.5mi. at 'the club' track then goes to work on some machines. Her stride is good and even, not favoring the leg anymore.
Best is she is now anxious for spring to get back to the cabin and start working!
We went up about a week ago before our next snowstorm came in thinking we might drive in and it was a nice day; No Way. We did hike in, funny thing is there was a drift ran the whole length of the driveway, never saw that before.
