Took the weekend off from cabim life for an old car rally. I know some of you have mentioned owning these cars.

Pretty nice selection, Paul
I cant tell if there is a Sunbeam Alpine in the mix?

No Sunbeams, oddly, because there was just about everything else. There was a neat Morris Minor, 1,300cc. Not much of a hill climber but it sure scooted around the corners. Put my Vette to shame, as did just about everything else on the twisty mountain roads.

Vette
Go fast on the straights to make up for slow in the turns? Never had one but that's what Ive heard, lol.
We had a rubber-bumper MGB, too; lots of emissions stuff that choked it off. My to be wife bought it new (then the dealer folded the next week) and at the 1st oil change the welded in drain plug threads fitting in the pan broke loose on me . It might have been broke but it was slow.....
The best sports car we had by far was a Datsun 280Z.

Yeah pretty much it for mine. I think the new ones do pretty good though.

I was thinking about it... In '56, when mine was new, I'm not sure there were any production American cars any better at cornering. Wasn't as big a concern with out wide open country, compared to Europe.

Back in about 1970 I had a '62 Ford Sunliner, 390 V-8, 3spd converted to floor shift.
Put on Station Wagon springs, rear-end for an automatic, HD shocks and 15" rims with new bias ply tires. That thing would corner in a 4 wheel drift like a big Austin Healey 3000. With that long-stroke 390 and tall geared rear it would wind forever and 1 less shift to mess with than the other guys 4 spds.
Guy I sold it to got clocked by the state patrol, and lost his license, for 130mph+.

Whoa 130 in a '62 Ford, that's impressive!

They had a banquet dinner after the rally, we took home the big trophy!
