Pulled this BB rifle out of the corner and can't remember how to load it. The BB rack has a knob in front, if I point the arrow forward all the BBs come out at once, no matter if cocked or not. if I turn it any other way none come out. What am I missing? It used to work..

Brand? Model?

Use Google to find a user manual?

Looked all over the thing, no name. But, I remembered some kids were using it, and handed it back to me with this little part, which I just found, and is the mechanism that lets one BB in at a time. So it's working, and back in the corner.. nice quiet target practice fun when guests come over.

BB Gun with a Picatinny rail. Made by Benjamin. Why is the name scratched off?

Beats me. Don't remember where I got it.
Where do you see that?

Maybe what you're seeing is just wear from sliding.

Maybe the brand stamping is under the rail?

What's a rail, lol. I'm a gun dummy. Anyway it's just a cheap toy, no accuracy at all.

Is gun talk off limits here, don't see it discussed much? I would like a better quiet rifle, maybe accurate at 100 yards. Is there such a thing? I have a shotgun and a 22 but also have neighbors too close to be using them for fun.

100 yards is pretty far out (skilled shot for a .22 even).

A good quality pellet rifle is pretty fun and quiet. They make some pretty high powered ones these days.. but 50 yards is probably all they are good for.

As you can see by my handle Im a g-crank....long time competitor, muzzleloaders on up to a short foray with a custom African safari rifle, a vicious kicking beast. Im not a hunter any more (not for decades now, and we mostly processed and ate what we bagged) unless it is a yard varmint that wont play nice with us.
For your casual 'engagement' target shooting a 22LR is fine to 100yd, even more. Im off to a '22' shoot this next 4 days were we range from 12.5 to 50 yds for the Boys Rifle stage offhand (shooting standing, no other support) to the main match which is 50 to 200 yd. Yes 200yds with a 22 LR. Some of the boys are even going to 400+ yards though I have not.
I do most of my target shooting at home out to a 50yd range with a boiler-plate backstop, and with 22LR. Conditions must be good to be enjoyable and meaningful; ie, small multi-shot groups, goal is sub 1/2" at 50yd on paper or hits on the steel. Im in the country and most of the neighbors here shoot too; it is still allowed here.
All that said, I also have several 'air rifles' and a couple 'BB guns'. The BB guns are smoothbore and known for low power and range, and fairly inaccurate, but can be fun and quiet for yard plinking at small pine cones, etc. Cheap 'dollar store' plastic golf or ping-pong balls are good targets too.
But the 'air rifles' are real shooters! They come in .177 and .22 cal., use lead pellets shaped pretty much like badminton cocks and can be very accurate. My German Weihrauch HW97K in .22 has done some 5 shot groups <1/2" at 30yd off a rest. It also cost about $600 a few years ago.
A good quality anything costs some real money these days, and ammo can be hard and expensive to find, even for 22 rim fire. The air rifle pellets are much cheaper.
My guess is that unless you are more than casually interested in shooting fun targets anything more than what you have now will sit a lot after the new wears off?
Lots more to tell if you are interested. We can take it off-forum if you want.

Careful with them air rifles. I accidently killed a moose last year with a pellet gun when I was attempting to shoo it away from my house (wife has too many run-ins on walks). Wouldn't have believed it unless it happened to me - what an ordeal!

I've seen gun threads on and off here but not often. I don't usually get much into them as it seems to me at times they end up being "discussions" similar to who makes the best truck; dodge, ford, chevy, etc.

However.

I will say I have been called a gun nut and maybe I deserve that. I have a roomful of mostly military long guns that date back to the 1800's and from around the world. I used to shoot competitively but gave that up a number of years ago.

I don't shoot guns that use gunpowder in some form much anymore, except for an old but accurate match grade .22 rifle. I like it a lot and one reason is the accuracy of the gun oftentimes exceeds the ability of the shooter. But at least I know if the gun doesn't hit the target it is not the fault of the gun. To me, target shooting with a gun of variable accuracy takes away most, or all of the fun. I derive a lot of personal pleasure in being as accurate as I can in hitting the target. Many people love to hunt animals for the meat. I have no issue with that, but I don't miss that as I know I would miss target shooting.

I do have an air rifle that gets more use than the .22. Air rifles have many advantages over gunpowder. Being able to use them in places where a gunpowder gun is too noisy, is too deadly, or plain illegal can be a big deal. There are three basic types; spring operated, CO2 and PCP (compressed air). Springers have the lowest operating cost. PCP CST the most and CO2 in between. There are other differences, advantages and disadvantages to each type.

If you or anyone wants to get their feet wet in the field of good air rifles, any Gamo will be a quailitychoice. I believe they still have some starting around $120. Even Amazon sells them or used to.

(That endorsement will probably start a small war of opinions. )

From there the sky is the limit. It would be easy to spend $1K and much more if one has that amount to spend on a hobby item. Your interest level after trying out a decent gun will decide what to do.

Thanks for all the ideas. No real need to pursue it but I will keep it in mind in my travels.

Speaking of gun collectors, a pal sent me this video the other day. Got a good laugh out of it.

The Picatinny rail was developed by Picatinny Arsenal.

Make sure you know the caliber of your model. It may not be a BB gun.

Had to take this booger out today with my wife's gamo p 27 dual pistol, when I went to put a battery charger on my urban insult vehicle this morning. It was coiled up under the hood.
It measured out to 47 inches. The pic is with my biggest channel lock pliers for size reference.

Wait, what! Where did you hit it?

I've used a BB gun to convince some neighborhood dogs that they best leave me alone. Just one pump, and you could actually see the BB fly through the air and hit the dog, but it was remarkably effective.
