An improvement over this earlier Corvette/pickup effort.

"I'd get it one piece at a time and it wouldn't cost me a dime
You'll know it's me when I come through your town
I'm gonna ride around in style, I'm gonna drive everybody wild
'Cause I'll have the only one there is a round"

Guess the artist?

Corvettes have long been fodder for custom body mods, since being fiberglass all you need is some good glue. My '66, which I have owned for 45 years, is no exception, although I hope done a little more tastefully. When I got it the fenders were cut out, it had a spoiler on the back and other assorted mods. I put flares on it, took off the spoiler, shaved some stuff off until it looks like it does today. I pretty much grew up in this car. It has gone from being cool in the '80s to frowned upon by the originality guys in the 2000s to back to being cool again by the current crop of old time hot rodders. I just repainted it again last December to fix some damage, will be back on the road shortly. I rarely drive it anymore, just felt like it deserved to be nice after being my companion for so long. 468 cu. in..

During the gas crunch of the '80s (?), when you could only buy gas on days your license plate was odd or even, I yanked the big block and put in a hot 327. It did handle better but didn't have near the guts. Went back to a big block and changed the 4:11 gears for 3:08s, as it was my daily driver for many years.

I've drag raced it a few times. Can't run slicks because of the weak IRS, blowing that once was enough. With street tires, the 3:08 gears and mufflers it ran high 12 second 1/4 miles at around 110mph. Would be much faster if set up more for the strip but again I was driving it daily at that time.

It can be yours for 16,500$. Seems like a good deal with the current pricing out there.
