We bought new in 2008 an Aliner Scout pop-up camper; it served us very well. When we got our cabin property accepted offer in early Sept. 2019 I couldnt quite decide if we should move the camper up there or not (we needed to really sort out how livable the cabin would be/how much work, etc). Come last spring was still the same and we had not yet closed (gal selling it is in USAF got stationed 'somewhere in a desert, somewhere in the world' all during the C-19 shut-down). We could still use the camper whenever though with the shut-down it didnt happen. Once we closed on Aug.1, 2020 we went into full blown site clean up and the Aliner sidelined; plus the road past our house got bridge construction greatly limiting my 'end of driveway sell exposure'. That ended and winter came..... So this past week on Mon. I started cleaning up the camper, spiffed it and fixed a few little things past due. I put it out front at 3pm Thur. and it sold in 5 hours! Chap didnt even dicker on my asking price, which wasnt 'cheap'. Now I can afford to buy some overpriced lumber

Awesome! Really did consider a camper/river for the property at first. I really wanted something wider than most that I saw. Plus, I was worried about critters underneath and snow overhead. Glad to have finished up before the Chinese crud swooped in. I provided MUCH relaxation and quiet time. Lately I have been divesting myself of all the tools/equipment I used in the build, left over metal brackets. Paid for that much larger Yeti (knock off) cooler for longer stays. Love end of driveway sales. The misses even groans when she sees one coming up. She knows I am pulling over.😂😂

I had not thought of that, Brett! Good point. Turns out to be a win-win for both of us that way. Guess the stimulus worked

The 'stimulus money' only works if people keep spending it and moving it through all levels of the economy. At this point Im stimulated, Im thinking about ways to most effectively spend it

It would be great if you had any local lumber mills or yards where you could get building materials. Retail Lumber has seriously gone stupid and anything like Plywood & OSB went even crazier.
I was just told by the local lumber yard, that the glues used for PW & OSB are the big problem, apparently, the factories in Texas that make those adhesives is still shutdown. They were muttering something about 6 months to reestablish production and the worst part... not to expect prices to drop back to previous levels. TBH, that does not really surprise me, when do prices ever go back down ?
Do you have the option to be able to use non-graded lumber in your locality ? Is a "Greenwood" option a possibility (that's trickier building) ?
Let's just say, my excursion to teh Lumber Yard was a Jaw Dropping, Eye Popping experience when I saw the latest prices. I mean HOLY CRAP ! it's nutz.
IF only we could get those 3D Printed 3BR houses they do in South America & elsewhere for 3-5K.

Lumber prices will drop. They cant sustain these high prices. I dont see it happening in 2021 though.

Yes Steve, I have a couple of small local sawmills, one within 3mi. and our rough cabin was built with green lumber, likely from one of them. Lets just say we have no problem with being too airtight....I need to cultivate a relationship with them So far we are fitting in with neighbors and locals very well.

Yeah, developing a relationship with local mills is important IMO. All of my cedar was cut by someone I now consider a friend.
All of my rough red & white pine (huge amounts also) also cut by a local acquaintance with a large sawmill. It's nicer & more "clear" than anything in Big Box and way cheaper to boot. Now I can get "green" which is <1 year cut or air dried or solar kiln dried that is <3 year cut for a little more.
I needed hardwoods for things and the store prices are well beyond ludicrous, My pine guy sent me to another buddy of his who does hardwood, boy I was in heaven ! The prices were great and got exactly what I wanted too. When I went there, they were cutting Oak Beams for a Green Oak House being built, holy macaroni...

Where are you at Brett? I cut down a bunch of dead standing cedar from national forest and hauled to local / mini mill for a bunch of my interior. Was super cheap, and cedar is pretty light so I could toss 10ft lengths in the back of the truck with a couple friends.
