Pine tar is a traditional method from Sweden for preserving wood. It results in a deep black stain that soaks into the wood and helps protect it from moisture and UV damage.

Sounds kinda like the creosote that used to be used for the same purpose, with much the same appearance. Less toxic, I presume.

Fanman, I love creosote (I know, bad stuff). But where can yo get it? I may have to switch to this stuff - but can you apply this over creosote?

Beachman, no, this has to applied to bare, unfinished wood. It is also fairly non toxic.

Pine tar sounds like a decent idea, but only if I can get George Brett to apply it.

That looks prety interesting and cheap compaired to other wood protectors. I assume you can re apply as much as you want?
