Here's something you could also do. Go around your cabin (especially into closed off rooms like bathrooms, bedrooms, or up in the loft) and see how difficult it is to escape from that room should you become trapped in there due to a fire. You might need to change the window, buy a roll up fire escape ladder, or make some other change to ensure survival.

Last night around the fire pit mention was made of a local guy who has started a company involved with remote fire protection. I didn't follow it well but something to do with foam sprayers connected to an ADT type security network with sensors. Sounds intetesting.
