I've never liked deck boards with screws or nails installed through the top surface of the board. If you drive them in too far the heads create a little depression for water to gather. If too high you can cut your bare foot on them. There are "concealed fastener" systems available but they usually require special boards with grooves cut into the edges so you can install a "hold-down" between the boards (and then screw through the hold-down to anchor the boards).
I saw this Kreg Deck Jig on the Fine Homebuilding site. You can use regular lumber and yet have the appearance of a hidden fasteners system.

I used a similar system. Something they don't tell you, you don't need the jig. I drive the screws in on the same angle by hand, same result just buy the screws.

The jig also spaces the boards....but you could use a spacer...

Wow, thanks for posting this, I have a huge deck to screw down this spring, never thought of it. So those are special toe nailing screws? Can you get them at Home Depot etc? Ont Lakeside, in your video it looks like you did not pre-drill? Not sure I need to spend $80 for the jig for a one time job, maybe if I was in the biz. I guess you can also remove the screws to replace a board later?
