Oh, you have to love those preppers. They spend hours and hours finding, researching, and testing gear.
Something for everyone!

I just want to find a good winter coat that I can just put on and go outside in. If it’s too hot, I’ll unzip it a bit.
As it is, they want you to layer up. What a pain! Say it’s -35 out, and I need to do something outside, I’m supposed to layer up to the point that I can hardly move, and put on some piss poor brand named coat that claims it’s good for -40 but freezes you at -10.

I use an Apocalypse Design parka. The expedition is the warmest but I have the Alpine. It's warm ! I use mine in Alaska. They were made for the cold. I have warm down jackets from Patagonia, Marmot and the likes, but they aren't warm enough for Arctic conditions .
Apocalypse will customize the jackets however you want. I added interior mesh pockets and a small zipper pocket for my camera. Their quality and customer service is excellent.

I have an older LL Bean parka that is rated to -40. Great coat! I can wear it out on the ice all day without getting cold. They still make it, but sadly it uses fake fur around the hood now. I have been using this coat for 20 Years.
