$14000 quote for the kitchen cabinets. I may build my own.
That said, I'm thinking of doing very basic boxes with drawers and will need extension slides. One type I've seen is a Scandinavian style that doesn't use front panels.

In the video of the cabinets...the draw in the kick plate would make a great secret stash location for small items.

Made my own using the basic Ana White plans. Also made a large pull out cabinet for the cooler. Some photos near the end of Photos in my build photos. Upper cabinets are cheap HomeDepot. All painted with a DIY 'chalk' paint.

Watched someone else do it slowly for their own kitchen, not a WHOLE lot of specialty tools. Inspired me to give it a go on my own soon.

In my part of the world, I have several places that sell "surplus parts". Two different large stores, one in GA and one in AL have purchased business that have gone away and I can buy "parts" for pennies on the dollar. Some cabinet doors are $ 3-5 8 each for unfinished doors made of pine, popular, oak. I have some oak shelves that were top grade wood (no knots or imperfections) that were very cheap. They were made for cabinet doors. I will be building my own cabinets for my cabin this winter. It is fun to go buy a bunch of "parts" and spend $ 50- $ 75 and then do my own work. I though that was the idea of the forum, build a small cabin, off grid and "do it my way" instead of hiring a contractor for a lock and key job.

I made my own cabinets for my home kitchen after pricing out commercial cabinets that were made from particle board, plastic guides and staples. Junk Made mine out of oak plywood with solid oak front framing. Turn out great.
My mistake was doing this after work while my wife was six months pregnant. I had gotten to the point of making the drawers when wife whom wasn't impressed with the time it took to do things right. I received a lecture about working my fingers to the bone.
Well fifteen minutes later while cutting finger joints with a shaper head in oak I did just that. I came upstairs with my hand wrapped in a bloody towel and calmly said that we need to go to the hospital. She was still in a foul mood and loudly responded, GET YOUR COUSIN TO DO IT. Well he did and while the surgeon stitching me up he was cracking jokes.
Will he be able to play the piano. Well, in time it will heal so he can. Great, he never could before.

I'm going to use full extension soft close drawer glides for the base cabinets. I'm convinced that all the lower cabinets (other than the sink cabinet) should be drawers so that every back inch of space can be accessed without stooping or kneeling. So lots of drawers.

Rockies Lee Valley is a good place and I've obtain several qualities items from them. I used a very similar slide. Ball bearing and HD with a low profile. The way I constructed my cabinets, I could use one slide underneath rather than two on the sides. Twenty years later it still works like a champ on those same slides.

I built this one last weekend from some doors from my childhood home. Intentionally made it "rustic".

Just helped a buddy to a remodel and it turned out nice. He bought some pre made cabinets, quality on them was decent. Prices varied from about $80 to $200 each depending on sizes. They have a good variation of sizes to make it work in any kitchen.
Project is about 85% completed. Old house, built in 1940. Now has all new plumbing (PEX) drains and wiring. Panel was updated about 10 years ago. Kitchen was one of the last areas, basically all new. Remodeled a room a year, doing this while residing in it. He has one bedroom left, probably next year or over winter, simple, low cost compared to rest. 20170909_161644.jpg

Toyota, Are you enclosing the tops of the upper cabinets to prevent grease and dust from coating the tops? I've also seen those cabinets that have doors that either hinge up or on the sides to give you more storage and that keeps the grease off of the cabinet contents.
it's a beautiful kitchen.

Rockies, upper cabinets and crown moulding looks nice. I am not sure what their plans are. She is a clean freak, so I bet it will always be clean. She is putting up decorations for now. I'm burnt out on it for now. It was demo'd right down to the studs, so we had a clean slate to work with, made it super nice.

Nice work Salty. Just. You'll be able to sell them as antiques in a few years after adding some wear marks. smile.
I've built a few cabinets. Its a pain to get them perfectly square. So now I buy the boxes and do the doors if I want to save money. That modern flat face is easily cut out of plywood and you iron veneer strips on the cut edges. Paint or stain.
