Another option: I've known the owner of Create-A-Bed for over 30 years. Met him when he and I were both learning the custom woodworking trade here in Louisville, KY. He has every murphy bed mechanism you would need, and along with the hardware comes all the instructions and design ideas that make it doable. I've always wanted to make a murphy bed and finally was able to two winters ago. It's great for our small guest bedroom.

So which Murphy bed mechanism does he recommend?

If you check out his website, you'll see that he is the manufacturer of his own mechanism. http://create-a-bed.com/ Many companies such as Rockler , Amazon carry his products and many custom murphy bed builders use his hardware. Good guy, solid product. Hope that helps. Bret

anyone ever thought about building a murphy bunk bed? I've been tossing around the idea of queen air mattress on the bottom and a twin air mattress on top.
got the idea from this http://www.busrvparts.com/bunks-fold_away.htm

Lots of Murphy bed ideas on Pinterest as well! I made one for our spare bedroom at home with a twin. I did not use a mechanism, just two bolts to swivel on but if I was going bigger than a twin I would definitely recommend a lift mechanism

I made my own, king size mattress, no lift mechanism. I no longer need my bench press and weight set.
