Sarah Susanka is an architect in the States that started a design revolution by writing the "The So Big" housing books. In her "Not So Big Solutions for your Home" book she discusses storage solutions for the usually forgotten home activities such as "what to do with the mail/newspapers/magazines that come into your home", how to organize computer/office areas, and how to set up kitchen recycling areas. She basically analyses each area of the house and makes it more functional (which in a very small cabin is particularly valuable).
I found her suggestion on pull out pantry cabinets to be very helpful at adding a ton of food storage to a small kitchen in a very narrow space.
