This article seems to blow wind turbines (no pun intended) out of the water as an off grid energy source.

I didn't read the whole page but I agree that most, maybe all, small turbines are not worth the money. I have a Bergey 5 kilowatt since 2001. That was added to the solar panels put in the year before. They complement each other nicely. Cost a pile when the 80 foot tower is counted in, but it works quite well where I am. Still a bunch cheaper than what the PoCo wanted.

I recommended SolaCity to everyone after I found Rob Becker's in 2015... (He's the owner and a Dutch Electrical Engineer to boot) very helpful & informative people work there... I bought 99% of my Solar kit from them with the exception of my Inverter/Charger because I wanted something particular....
Very good bunch of folks there at SolaCity and they will guide you & talk you through the stuff you need to do. Good After Sales Service & Support too, which is becoming rare these days...
I have not spoken with Rob since last year but at that point they had stopped doing Installations themselves, as it was simply too busy and they could not keep up with it... Well that is Understandable (if your an Ontario resident) because of what that Wanker Premiere has done to Hydro Costs (up 140% in past 8 years)... That's effectively driving one segment of the Alternate Power Generation sales....
