Really depends on the size of the setup. Who's using it. Male/female. How often.
I cheerfully mix everything with a larger composting toilet. And assuming the drain/vent are working properly. No problems.
I cheerfully mix everything in a 5 gallon dry compost bucket toilet. If the gf is visiting I a) empty more often. or b) ask her to use the bed pan for #1s. But no big deal if she doesn't.
I also use: * Bokashi in my dry material. I've posted on this regularly. he he. The advantages are two fold: One, no odour. Two, eliminates (I'm on a roll, dang) dangerous pathogens. * lots of carbon. usually straw. and ask everyone to put the tp in the toilet. carbon helps the high nitrogen digest.

I think the time I discovered we had a problem there were 7 females and 5 males. Bad combo, bad mess, crappy (haha) job...

There are a couple of things you have to keep in mind when composting human waste:
#1
and
#2

I found out from a friend who discovered this the hard way. I took his advice and came up with this design. It's been a year and a half and it is just now full. Dry as a bone in there too. http://www.small-cabin.com/forum/3_6192_0.html

Hey! I know it's been three years but I came across this post and couldn't just go past it. Now I see that this mistake is not only mine I guess we just have to find it out the hard way, to remember it for life :D Anyway, have you ever tried to do a urine test for the one you use? I did, just for interest.. These tests showed a lot of natural and chemical components in it. Had no idea what I was using
