I like the link and will snoop around it later. I hate to see the word "sustainable", its a code word for other things.

Quoting: toyota_mdt_tech its a code word for other things. Strongly agree, it's really amazing how certain groups and major media have so twisted the age-old definitions of words/terms that they now seem to have much different meanings. Maybe it's just me, but I can remember when being described as "discriminating" was a quality, something to be proud of. Like being able to differentiate between right & wrong, or good & bad. Not any more, Webster would roll over in his grave.
rockies, sorry for the topic shift, it's all toyota's fault!

Despite googling it, I'm not sure what its a code word for, at least as intended in the sentence quoted. Can you shed light on the matter?

That's a good video- I was unaware of the retardant materials you can spray onto a structure yourself. And I hadn't thought of getting a little gas water pump and fire hose.
In my case, and probably many others, my cistern is connected to the house with a small line- 1-1/4" main off the tank and 1" branches. So I'm wondering if this would supply water to a pump at an adequate flow rate. If not, I suppose I may need to put in a small reserve tank next to the pump to keep a ready supply while the pump is in use. The reserve would be filled from the main with a constant flow, while the pump is used intermittently while fighting the fire.
One thing he doesn't talk about in the video is how fire starts on a house. He did talk about how radiant heat from burning trees can ignite a building, but he didn't talk about wind and embers. Fire makes its own wind and blows a steady blizzard of embers onto the house, the embers collect in corners and crevices under eaves, around trim, etc. and kindle a fire. This is a major cause of houses burning in wildfires. Building out of non-combustibles is the first line of defense, that spray retardant would be perfect to address this, if there is time to apply it. In fires here in California, often the fire kicks up so quickly and immediate evacuation orders are issued, so people barely have enough time to grab a few things and skedaddle, let alone take an hour to coat the house with foamy goo.
Here's one company that sells different spray foam products for coating buildings in wildfires- from a backpack to a little mobile cart to automatic systems installed on the house. I don't know how many such companies there are, and I have no affiliation with this one

One company that sells portable fire pumps and hoses, etc. During a fire the firefighters might reach your property but can't bring in a pumper truck because resources are always stretched thin in large fires. If you have a pump and water there they will use it if you aren't there.
