I saw this ad for trex outdoor storage systems. The components are expensive but are supposedly waterproof. I've been thinking of an outdoor kitchen but the main drawback has been how to protect it. Are there any cheaper alternatives to the cabinet components or should I just build a gazebo over it for the rain?

If it was me, I'd put the kitchen under a roof (a gazebo would certainly work) so that it can be used when it rains and with screening all around to keep the flying pests away from the food and chef.

I was watching an episode of Texas Flip And Move and they built an outdoor kitchen on one of the houses.

At our hunt camp, we have a gas stove, a barbeque and a gas fridge . On our covered deck. Surprisingly we haven't had a big problem with critters.. old243

My local bears would love an outdoor kitchen.

Maybe try looking with the search terms "Summer Kitchen" and see what pops up, so many ideas & implementations over the decades there's heaps of ideas to inspire creativity & solutions.
Many of the Mennonite families moving to this area now add on Summer Kitchen's to their homes, I've been fortunate enough to be able to see a few variations and none of them have electricity and the wood stoves (cookers which they make themselves) are amazing.

k davis. We do have a bear , population around camp. We are very careful with grease, table scraps ,peelings etc Dump them away back in the bush. We also try to keep the population thinned out a bit. We have an inside kitchen as well, The outside one keeps the camp cooler in the summer. old243

If you search the site using the search function there are some neat ideas on this site for outdoor kitchens". I did a search of outdoor kitchen cabinets and found davestrek thread and he has a neat setup with his chuck cabinet. His link is http://www.small-cabin.com/forum/6_1314_1.html. There are some other ideas as well.
