A detail that sometimes does not receive enough attention is flashing windows and doors. The idea of flashing is to lead any water outwards. The self stick variety is easy to apply and works well. There are many brands available; one of the originators is made by Grace Construction Products. As well as a lengthy list of products, some customized for certain applications, Grace has a good reference library of how to guides.
