I may need to build a bridge across a small creek in order to get to site of future cabin. It must be able to hold a kobota tractor/extra bed pickup. Does anyone have experience or can suggest a site?

Is the creek a fish bearing stream, or "navigable waterway?" What kind of span? Which jurisdiction? If there is no beauracratic enviromental regulations to worry about, you can still minimize any such complications by running a continous span...that is no footings in the streambed itself. Steel I-beam could be a very good choice, as it can support a lot of weight for a given span. Wood is also a good choice, and you can find any number of web sites which will give the weight capacities for a given span. BTW, our bridge spans 200', 13' above the river, and is rated for 5 tons. It was originally built of logs, but ice took it down about 10 years ago, and we rebuilt it with steel.

The creek is not fish bearing or navigable waterway but a 6 feet wide and 4 feet deep running from the top of a ridge through a hollow.

You could buy an old flatbed trailer and have a crane lift it into place.

i have built several , worked as a engineer for govt. before i retired. AND i have built several on hunting properties, leased and private, go with the bigest power/telephone poles you can find. And lay them across the creek ( get each end to original ground grade by hand digging)with a tractor with boom on back of 3pt hitch. You want 2 poles per tire. 4 poles total. then deck it with at least 3 inch white oak planks, use bridge nails to nail them to power poles, and also we cables our's to trees so they will float up during a flood just to hold them in the area, Hope this helps.

Turkeyhunter, That is amazing. Question: If you don't mind my asking, what was your profession. I am 54, have worked for the same health care system since 77. Unfortunately, as a nurse, I can't see myself retiring until I'm dead. Had to cash in my retirement four years ago to get my daughter through high school (didn't work). Lost half to government then still had to pay taxes.
