Thank you.
We actualy made the 3hr drive, tried to auger the holes with a auger on the mini ex but failed, then dug every one, got them inspected and filled with concrete and rebar in 2 days. I also did a rough grade of the area around the tubes and dug a swale. It was dawn to dusk both days with just my nearly 70yr old father and me.

What really helped was mounting my electric mixer on the bucket of my mini ex and useing my tractor to move the concrete right to where the mixer/hole was.

As Im now 70 I wish I had a motivated young guy like you for our place!
Yer doin good, especially considering the skeeters. It is like that at our country home (940sf old one room school house from the late 1800s) surrounded by swamps and marshland. We can retreat 45min. north to our cabin 9ac where there are few skeeter or ticks.
And the works is never done.......

Looking good! That's a lot of work in 2 days, especially considering you mixed the concrete yourself....Nice job, will look forward to seeing your progress..

My father turned 70 in April of this year. His cognitive health is in decline. I will cherish the time we spent together working on my cabin as I am not sure he will make another trip.

I hope you and your dad are making good memories.

Sub floor on, 24' walls framed and stacked off to the side. It's been a very productive weekend. Tomorrow we cut more studs, clean up and head home.

Sure is. That's two 12hr+ days. We had a goal to meet by the end of the weekend and got there.
We are taking a break for a weekend then on it again for 10days. I expect to have a dried in building up with the roof fully on by then.

Very nice.....What size cabin are you building?

Based on your progress to date I think you should be able to get it dried in, in 10 days.....

Great start, for me, once my deck was built it really felt like it was all happening I put my lawn chair in the middle, christened it a deck chair and had a refreshing beverage.
If I may add a few words of caution....
Be Extra Careful now! Your plan will stop IF either of you gets hurt (it happens to somebody on a construction project Every Day).

We are doing a 20x24 main cabin with a 8x12 porch next to a 8x8 bathroom. The main cabin will be under a gambrel roof and the porch/bath will be under a gabel roof.

I really like your shed, you built to stay in…it makes me smile my whole finished building will be the temporary “shed” you guys use for temporary accommodations while building your actual cabins 😂

Amazing amount of work, you get done.
I feel lazy by comparison at 46!

If I didnt have a family I would have just bought a slightly bigger shed as a cabin. We have stayed in that with no insulation and 3 guys with snow on the ground.

I'm 37 and my father is nearly 70. You build a cabin just like you eat a elephant..one piece at a time. He will prob sendup building him and my mother a house very shortly.

Tomorrow we head up for 10days. The goal is to get the roof on.

Dang! This was apparently well planned out before starting! Did you have the roof trusses all pre-cut andvready to assemble? Wall studs pre-cut as well?

Way to go, great progress!

Yes. I have been planing this for what feels like years. We built the roof trusses in half at home. We cut all the wall studs and layed out the top and bottom plates the weekend we did the floor joists and sub floor.

Today it rained half the day and got most of the back wall done becids putting windows in. Theres a 70% chance of rain or better basicly until we leave.

Got the roof 98% done just as the heavy rain came in. This was 7 days of 12-14hr days but we started with the sub floor on. We have had about 2 days of good solar gain the whole 7 days so having a generator with a battery charger has been key

Day 9 at this point I think.. roof is totally done, front door on and trimmed. We spent the rest of the day cleaning up a wreck of s build site, stacking lumber, packing, drying everything and we will be headed home tomorrow morning. It's been such a wonder full mental and physical push for my father and I. We are both happy to have done so much and things turned out looking great.

Went up for a 3 day weekend and got the porch roof on and bathroom enclosed. Next is railings, stairs and decking. After that I'm going to stain the exterior, put the windows and back door in then schedule the framing inspection.
