Well the wait is finally over. Was finally able to take the new boat out to the property with a load of supplies and got the floor finished. Decided to go with a simple 10x10 after changing the plans a million times through the winter wait. Excited to finally get out there and get some work done. 3A2DA46CDA8F41389.jpeg

Oh wow! Nice and close to the water. Super cool. These Ontario bunkie builds are my favorite. How did you end up bringing the materials in?

Ya it’s got a pretty nice view in both directions I’m really happy with how the location turned out. I ended up picking up a cheap 12 ft boat and hauling everything in with that. It’s had it’s scary moments especially today with the rafters coming in but so far it’s worked out great. Got caught out in the rain today but still managed to get some progress. Its starting to come together nicely. 484DAE933BD344E1A.jpeg

Finished off the roof rafters today and added in some more bracing between wall studs for more support. I’m having a little to much wiggle in the building side to side I’m hoping It will go away once the sheeting is put on. If anyone has any suggestions on improving stability I’d love to hear them. Also got my first glimpse of the view from the sleeping loft and I’m looking forward to that view first thing in the morning 6560D9628FFF4BA4B.jpeg

I would put 1 sheet of siding on each side as soon as you can .

You think that will be enough to stabilize It? T only wobbles when I give It a good shake but it’s still more than I’d like

I was pretty concerned with our bunkie as well. One sheet of siding stopped the wobble completely.

How high did the river get this spring? We had a fair amount of water this year.

When I build them I put the siding on before I raise the walls. But if you are alone they are heavy.

Okay great job that makes me feel better haha. I would have preferred to sheet It first but I was alone unfortunately and It would have been difficult. But I’ll grt out there soon and get some sheeting on It should be fine until then. We’ve had a lot of water here to this year the river is definitely higher then I’ve seen It. I should be safe from the water though It still has a ways to go before It gets up that high

Finally made It out again and made some progress. The sleeping loft is built it’s a little small but It will do just fine. Got some sheeting on the walls and the structures feeling a lot more solid. F11B7A201A334EFB8.jpeg

Thanks man. I’m hoping to get some metal roofing but It might be a struggle to get out there.

We did metal in ours and it wasn't too bad to transport. Individual sheets are very easy to move. Just wear gloves. Howie's Saw is great to deal with for it.

Ya I’ve never done a metal roof but as long as i can splice It along the middle i should be able to get It out there. It’s 16 ft long roof so that’s a bit to big for my little boat haha. Got out there today and mad some more progress though. All sealed up and ready for some roofing now.

As Whisky Jack said the panels are quite light. I did have a hard time stacking mine in the boat without scratching them. You can always rent a pontoon boat or such for a half day to move large panels out.

If you are on the Kaministiquia River, then we are neighbors of sorts, as we are across the border in Cook County, Minnesota. We love Thunder Bay, and go up for day trip. Tiny cabins, like 8x12, are a super fun size. Give us more info on what sort of design you are planning, what materials etc.!
