Hi Old Buddy, we took logs and had them 'sliced' lengthwise into half inch thick slices at a mill. Pre-stained them and nailed them up. We used those same boards also for the window trim because we had enough left. We pre-built the window trim at home and then just slid them into place at the cabin. Worked beautifully

Moni, Wow, looks just great! I watched your youtube video of setting the logs. Wow, those things are massive. I love your interior walls too, very creative.

I love your interior. Those pics of the crane picking up the roof logs are very interesting. Those are some HUGE logs. Keep up the pictorial updates.

thank you all for the kind comments. Yes those logs are pretty big, aren't they?! But proportionally they seem to work wonderfully. You should see some of the logs my husband works with. Talk about BIG!!!! My favourite things of this cabin so far are the interior walls and the porch. Can't wait to get decorating. I still don't know exactly what to do with the floor since it's an unheated cabin except for when we are there. I've been thinking about something like this: http://www.whyweflourish.org/?p=323

I've been kicking around a 'cabin'/'shed'/'anything to get out of the city'/ type building as well. Long story short, once I get something into my head, it's hard to let it go. The 'frame' of your cabin is exactly what I want. Hands down. In the first few pictures I could see this massive log and I'm thinking.......what??? Then as I looked at each picture more and more as you progressed it clicked and I was like OMG! That's perfect. It will be hard to get this 'massive frame' out of my head. Thanks a lot. Haha. As far as the flooring u have in mind, I didn't get it at first, but about 5 seconds later it made perfect sense. I love it. Don't know that you can get more rustic than that. Keep posting!!

I see you have an Estwing brand hammer on the loft floor. Good choice! I've had mine (it has a leather-covered handle) since 1966, and is my first and favorite tool.

Erins#1Mom, we did electric for heating. Insurance would have gone up insanely if we would have decided to do a wood stove. We'll see how electric works out. Might get one of those infrared heaters as we've heard great things about them. cabinet getting painted
