hello--- stayed down at my cabin this weekend---and decided it was time to move on to bigger and better cabin-- i built my hunting cabin 20 something years ago( back then it did not have 2 nickles to rub together), out of scrap, free and tore down a barn for materials, it's a 20 x 20 barn shaped shingle roof, with loft sleeping, added on a 8 x 8 bathroom, then another 8x12 bedroom, etc.
Don't like climbing stairs anymore, and built this in the wetest part of my hunting property......decided this weekend====to build new hunting cabin about 300 feet up the hill ( well will be about 100 feet from new camp), use the same well etc---put will need new septic----will use the old camp for a barn========
thinking of a 20 x 30 or a 24 x 30 floor plan..........single level.
Anyone have a good floor plan for this size????.......green metal roof, board and batten for exterior walls. any idea's????

Turkeyh.

Just thought I'd say "Hi" and welcome. You responded to my post "To sell or rent" and I apprreciated that.

I don't have any specific answers to your post, but I'd like to relate an experience we had this past weekend. My wife and I met another couple at their lake cabin for a day of snowmobiling. We decided to take a new route to a restaurant for dinner and along the way we found other snowmobilers who my friend knew. They were going cabin hopping and invited us to go along. During the course of the day we visited six cabins of different sizes and construction. At the end of the day the four of us talked about the day and we all agreed on one thing; the smaller rustic cabins all seemed more inviting and more welcoming. One, the biggest, had an open floor plan with exposed ceiling and loft overlooking the living area. Maybe it was the light pine paneled walls and ceiling, or the dropped ceiling in the all new kitchen, but it sure didn't feel "warm" compared to the darker, smaller log cabins.

I tell you this story partly because it sure opened my eyes to what feels best, at least to the four of us. And I guess that's what my vision is for the cabin I'm building - a place of comfort and warmth.

Good luck on your project.

Jerry

Look under the catagory "members projects".

You might have to search a little, but there's a lot of info on cabins in that size rrange. My cabin is 24'x24' one story and is just a little small for my likes. I'm thinking of taking the roof off (it needs help anyway) and replacing it with room in the attic trusses. Then one of the two existing bedrooms would become part stairway and part kitchen expansion, and the room in the attic would become a large bedroom with a nice view. The present size of the cabin is big enough for just me and my wife, but when we have company, grandkids, etc, we need more sleeping room.

I would think 20x30 would be a good size depending on your needs. Once again, good luck and keep us up to date on your progress.

cabins/floor plans in the 20 x 30 size

We are strongly considering a 20x32 1-1/2 story from these plans.

Plans? What plans? Just build it, she will be fine.

My cabin is 20' x 22' inside dimension. 1/2 has a loft. Plenty of room.

Initially, wasn't going to install a loft. It was an afterthought. Glad I opted to put one in. It really opened up the lower level.

A deer camp designed on the back of an envelope and built from scrap and salvaged barn materials? Add 20+ years of deer camp memories and you have the stuff dreams are made of. If you have a couple of pictures of your original/existing deer camp I would enjoy seeing them.

By the way, on a foggy morning last fall I was riding my 4-wheeler down an old logging road at my place when I came upon a couple of dozen turkeys on the forest floor. Within a second of seeing them it was as if they all took one step behind a tree and disappeared into another dimension. When I arrived at the area where they had been there was no evidence they had ever been there. It was like a mirage. That is a very strange animal.

a good campfire in front of deer camp/cabin last fall on a cold night.

my fire ring is a 6ft steel wheel ( super heavy) that was the main COG-belt driven in a saw mill operation, i found in the creek after a flood many years ago, the steel spokes were broken out of the middle. It will be relocated to teh new camp up the hill. ( with the help of the tractor .boom and chain )

Thanks for posting those pictures. That is an awsome fire ring...one man's junk is another man's treasure as they say. Be sure to keep us in the loop as you build the new cabin.

Hi Turkeyhunter,

Thanks for your response to my comment on another thread. You said that you had an RV that you sold for $1000. I am sorry I missed that deal! You also asked where our land is located in GA. We are in White Plains, GA. Are you in Georgia? I love the picture of your cabin/barn.
I am also a new member. As a matter of fact, I just became an official member today :).

Turkeyhunter,

Hey, we are practically neighbors! I apologize for the delay in responding. After checking out other threads on this site, I couldn't remember what thread you posted this question on. It took me days to find this thread again (lol)!
I am looking for a good (inexpensive) travel trailer - maybe 28' -32'. I would like a fifth wheel because of the space, but that may be out of our range at this time :(. I am being opened minded about possibilities because of budget concerns. Whatever comes our way that meets our needs and our budget---we will take :).
Thanks for asking!
