Trying to build a small bunkie with mostly left over materials. 8x12 using 1/8" 4x4 square tubing skids and 2x2 cross beams 12" OC. . Is this sufficient for the size and weight? 6/12 pitch shed style roof with a lot of 22 gauge bare corrugated steel. I probably should of researched more. I've moved it about 80 ft with an excavator and seemed to hold up fine. I need to trailer eventually 150 miles and it ll sit at 9,800' elevation. but thought if it's to weak it would turn into a kids play house. Thanks for any input.

that is plenty strong, just compare to trailers that haul heavy loads...my ice fishingshack is just 2 inch angle on 2x10 tube...its fine... but i did glue it together ...very ridged

Thanks for the feed back, I glued and screwed the floor as well as all the framing, it has 2x6 rafters. I assume it would be strong enough, but will weigh a lot when the interior is finished. Luckily I had a lot of left over material from a fence job and some reclaimed material from an old calving barn. Pretty sure I made a mistake on my roof insulation, but hope fully with it only seasonal use it won't be an issue. I'm trying to keep the total under $1200-1500. Was looking to go the shipping container route but thought I'd fire up the welder and try to build a hybrid of sorts. Been lurking on this site for a few yrs, great site and info on here.

Strongly agree about using surplus materials readily available. I did a similar metal skid using 2" pipe, but for somewhat different reasons. I doubt you'll have any problems moving your bunkie, providing you have a proper truck & trailer (pay extra attention to the overall height). cabin foundation

That's a great use of pipe. Did you have it dipped and galvanized or spray with a zinc galv spray? I put a few coats of primer on mine is all. I plan on setting in on gravel/concrete block to get some air flow underneath. That's a great idea with the pipe, I have a lot 2 7/8" drill pipe that should work good for a set up like that.

I used silver/AL industrial paint, applied w/ a brush. And the pipe is actually 2-3/8" J-55 seamless tubing, 4.7 ppf, one size under your 2-7/8". Likewise, good air circulation underneath was specified for my cabin. And in the last 5 years it's been bone dry there. Also it allowed enough access for utility lines.

Thanks for the response, Seems to be a good route to go if you have left over steel around and know how to work with it. I'm planning on building a few more with the surplus of left over materials I have. I'm planning on putting 2 smaller gabled 8'x8' add ons once it's in place, weld onto the existing frame, and eventually put a front porch on it with 2 left over sheets of diamond plate for the decking. I originally looked at this tiny house design to draw an idea from.

Finally got the shack hauled on the mountain. I underestimated the weight, due to all the finish work, 2x6 framed and steel. Dropped it from 32" and it didn't do much other than bend a steel floor joist a bit from hitting a cinder block.

Interesting approach to a foundation. Like that build. You assistants look like they work well together. Looks cool with the wood and tin.

Is that a cabin kit or a "Stoney" type of build?

Toner, Not sure what a "Stoney" is?? But it's not a kit, just mostly random reclaimed and left over material.
