Going on year 7 since I cut the first trees down for a 24' x 14' log cabin. We have been enjoying it through the years but haven't had the time to get things completed yet. Still need to do a final chinking and then I'd like to put some nice wood up under the eves to hide the OSB. It is a labor of love! Santa brought us Solar this Christmas! Solar Power! Thanks Santa!

Great place Elk. You must be in the mountains with that much snow?

Jerry-
We are located in central Idaho at an elevation of 4865 feet. I've seen upwards of 6' of snow on the level in a big snow year. We usually have 3-4' on the ground from December thru April then get a big melt in May. With a 12/12 roof pitch the snow really piles up on the sides. It sheds the snow quite well but closes in view out the windows if we don't dig out to expose the edge of the roof line.

Nice. I like the floors. Did you do anything for frost heave? I want to to a similar floor for our sauna.

I excavated down 36" which removed all organic materials and got into a sand and gravel substrate. I replaced the excavation with 3/4" crushed stone, compacted in lifts then added a skiff of 5/16" crushed stone before setting the stone slabs which make up the floor. I haven't even noticed a crack in the motar joints so I think there is minimal movement due to frost.
