I have been a lurker for quite some time and would like to thank everyone on the forum for providing such great information. I started what was going to be a glorified hunting shack and is soon turning into a quaint little cabin... This project has become so addicting. I am a little over 6mo into the building process. Thanks to wife and kids I have had plenty of help.
I will try and post interior pictures soon. Ground breaking

Thanks for the coments. Timberjack, I am planning on using log siding of some sort. Would like to get unpeeled log siding but still looking for a good supplier. Cabins in the mountains of Colorado are using cutoffs from sawmills that look really cool.
In the process of getting the inside all insulated. The heat shield is also installed for the wood stove. Will get some updated pictures.
Also looking for supplier of "Beetle kill" pine milled into Tounge and Groove. Somewhere around Denver, CO I believe there is a supplier.

We have a massive beetle kill industry here in BC, but the prices seem higher than regular wood, and I understand most of it is exported to Asian countries. Why look for beetle kill?

The beetle killed pine develops that blue stain. Some people will pay premium prices for that. Way back when I was a kid one summer job was sorting the blue stained T&G product from the production line at a mill. They sold it at a higher price than the wood that was non stained or only had a small amount.

I really like the cabin. I am planning a 12 by 16 myself. I plan on starting it in the spring in the nc mountains.

The blue stain is actually caused by a fungus that infects the logs after the tree has died or has been cut. Here in MS our southern yellow pine logs will "blue" quickly during the summer if left on the logging ramp for just a couple of weeks. I think it is a combination of the heat and humidity that fosters the growth of the fungus. The big corporate mills wont even buy the blue logs under most circumstances so we have to leave them in the woods or carry them to a woodmizer to have them sawn for our own personal use. They make a beautiful addition to most cabins.

There is alot to be said about satisfaction in a job done. However, doin it by yourself sure does get to become exhausting. Gonna have my oldest son helping me Saturday, hope to get it finished.

evrmc1 - I was able to order it at our local lumber yard. Very easy to get ahold of and really fairly easy to install. We will see what the upkeep is going to be. I am very happy with the way that it turned out.

Finally getting started on the roof for my deck. I am using Cedar Poles that I cut from behind the cabin. The lumber on top is just temporary so I could see how the roof line was going to look. Cant wait to get it covered.
