Hey!

This is my first post....I was lurking for a while until I made the purchase...now my brain seems to be in perpetual cabin mode!
I will need advice....Ill try to take it one step at a time...so much to tackle.

My first issue I will ask for help with is the wood stove....if you call it that. Its a fireplace insert...placed in the middle of the room on its own...with a stack out the roof.
I have a traditional wood stove I want to put in...but the stack sizes are very different. The current pipe is a 12" double wall....and I have a new 6" stove. How can I go from 6" to 12" pipe...near the ceiling? Is there a reducer this size?...and does it have to be double walled also?

Ill try to add some pics also.

Great forum....glad to be a part of it!

That looks like a great place you have there. I know the feeling of perpetual cabin mode. My wife gets on me all the time about talking about the cabin too much. She just don't understand all the thoughts I have going on in my head that we can do at our place. Good luck with your place and welcome.

Welcome, take all comments with a grain of salt, everyone's, even mine. Use the best logic you can. I would say you could run six inch all the way through inside the twelve. Some sort of flashing to keep the rain out. It should be sure safe.

Why not build a nice wood surround whats there? I like a fireplace over a wood stove because I like to watch the flames..

I dont see any reason why you cant stick a 6" or 8" if it will fit, right up inside the 12" pipe. Its done all the time when people put a pellet stove in their fire place the installer always drops a 4" exhaust pipe right down the chimney.

That said, I'm not a big fan of fireplaces. If it were my place I would stuff it with insulation, block it up and put a cook top woodstove right in front of it.
