Hi,

I have to install a heat shield above my wood stove. I was wondering what the spacing needs to be between the shield and ceiling? I think 1" is enough but I have seen spacers that give a greater clearance than that. Also how big does the heat shield need to be on the ceiling?

Thanks for the help!

Why do you have to install it? Were you required to by an inspector, or is it another reason?

Usually ceramic spacer of 1 inch are enough. How high above your stove top is the ceiling? The other thing is that the edges of the shield usually has to sit about an inch away from the walls in order for air to circulate all around it. What will your shield be made out of?

Here is a drawing of what's required in Canada if you need a shield on your ceiling.
