Slowly making progress on the cabin, got more siding installed and finished off the tin work on the gables. The tin was salvaged from an old house on my inlaw's farm. I think it looks really cool and gives the cabin a vintage/rustic look. I found the leaded glass window at a salvage yard and did some trading with the owner.

Love the look. We are in range fire country so we will be building with metal roof and fibercement siding. Very envious.

Did a little inside work, the beadboard was salvaged from an old building, touched lightly with some sandpaper, more cypress above.

A very very nice build, TJ.
To used salvaged materials, and make fit so well, is an art.
That beadboard sets things off very nicely.
Are you considering a stain, or clear seal?

Wonderful progress

Thankyou Mr. Gary, I think a clear seal for the beadboard, not sure on the cypress, maybe a light stain to add a little character but I'm open to suggestions.

Got a little inside work done this weekend, mainly putting the old barnwood on the south wall. Also made a heat shield for the corner, spaced out some concrete board then another space and some old sheet metal.

Very nice. If I may ask what did it cost to bring power to your cabin?

I had to go about 800'. The power company said it wouldnt cost anything to go overhead but I opted to go underground with the last 400'. It was $3/ft for the primary line to the transformer and $2/ft for the secondary line to the meter at the cabin. It wasn't cheap but definately worth it.

That is not bad price at all. I work for a Coop (REA) and our prices are 6.50 a foot OH and 7.50 for URD. Thanks for sharing that and yes it can be costly but it also raises the value of the land. Again you have a very nice cabin and great workmanship. Awesome place.

What is the function of that beautiful cedar thing (? wall unit, island or base cabinet)? I love the look.

That is a little vanity cabinet for the bathroom. I have cut an opening in the top and placed a little drop-in sink in it. I also finished it with some polyurethane. It was made by an old friend (90 yrs young) whom I begged to make something for us for the cabin. It is cedar and cypress. Thanks for the comment.

Thats a round we cut off the butt of a cypress log and we cut the arrowhead out of the deck of an old bushhog mower. Glad you guys approve and I'll try to post more pictures later.

Very nice. I can see you've been collecting cabin decor, that's a lot of stuff, and takes a lot of effort. And not easy to turn it off the gathering urge when done....
Really cool place. I like the Cedar landing, also the cedar pole behind the stairs. Also congrats in getting the "Grandpa-built" vanity those are what make a cabin.
