First I want to say thanks to everyone here. This was my go to place for knowledge. My son(11 years old) and I started our cabin on Fathers Day(06/20/2015) and we finished on 12/20/2015. Then we had 12 inches of rain in 24 hours on Christmas Day and cabin had some damage but it is still standing strong. Talk about getting tested in a hurry....100 year flood in the first week. Hope to finish all the repairs this weekend. We used Stoney's 2x6 log idea and we are very pleased. Total cost of around 7K because we had been collecting materials for a couple of years. Sold our jet skis for 5k that we never used and built the cabin. That was a great trade.

Cabin has 12v led lights, propane water heater and oven, rain collection for water with 12v pump, compost toilet and rv video/audio unit for music and movies.

Very nice. I wish my sons would have been interested in helping build the cabin. Truth is, they they have only been to the lake lot where my cabin is once, and that because I practically forced them.

I'm waiting on grandkids now to take to the cabin and spoil rotten. Maybe in a couple of years...

Enjoy your awesome cabin!

Very well done and quite a nice little bit of heaven you have there. You'll get so much more out of that than any old Jetski, indeed the Best Trade to make.

I read through Stoney's post Easy and Cheap Log Cabin thread and considering something like a sauna in the future using that method.

Does having the cabin up like that help keep the mice out?

The reason I ask is because at home if I keep my grill on a slab I get mice in it.

If I put the grill up on my deck no mice.

The locations are 5 feet apart.

Very nice. I have a good friend that built a 12' x 16' cabin in South Georgia. His, too, is elevated about 4'. It's amazing how much the elevated platform and a porch make the 12x16 look so much bigger.
His doesn't have a loft but I think that is a GREAT idea!

22tlane, I am having trouble following your floor plan. I see a small door heading to the composting toilet but then it appears that there is a shower in another room.
Do you mind sharing the floor plan sketch that you used for this cabin?

I have been contemplating building a cabin this Spring and all but talked myself out of the 12x16. You may have talked me back into it! Yours look awesome

@turkeyhunter The rock sign refers to a huge rock in the creek that my son and I like to fish from (mostly bass, bluegill and catfish).
The flood washed out one of my footers, washed away water tank(found in woods and have reinstalled). The most damage was our 40' shipping container that we used to store atv, motorcyle, etc. It washed the whole containter about 300 yards down the field. Had a couple of feet of water in the container but have cleaned out and got everything running again.

PS That is me and my son in the second pic stripped down to our underwear and boots to get over to check on the cabin. I love this picture and it will soon be hanging in the cabin for us to get a good laugh.

@pondjumpor The bathroom is 42"x 8'. Door is centered with toilet on left and shower on right. Maybe this pic helps a little.

@tomsmith I got my water tank at carolina water tank.

pretty creek and sound like good fishing ....bass/bream and cats are all fine eating ....glad you recovered everything from the flood!!

I am headed tomorrow and get cedars left over by a timber harvest on my deer lease. Got a guy with a Lucas sawmill sawing those up for me in a couple weeks!!!

More pic's of your cabin!!!! GREAT JOB!!!

Finally got our small wood stove installed and spent the weekend with my son and his buddy. We are in Georgia so we do not need a lot of heat but I was impressed with the cubic mini wood stove. I just need a dc ceiling fan to better circulate the heat. Also worked on fire pit and my son's deer shed project.
