Well, after six months of being townies, we've come to a mutual conclusion
We're moving back to the cabin
Too many reasons to list
But I'll try
I'm a caged lion in town No wild life (wild life are my pets) No night sky in town...too much light polution Trees...wild trees Wood heat....there's just sumpm about the warmth of wood heat
Water...the purest of mountain nectar...city water...blech Exercise...with a purpose No TV...TV is an extreme disabler Air....mountain air....unmatched If an animal or renegade approaches, you can fire a few rounds and they'll scatter Fire of a round in town and you go to jail
....and
beauty
I so miss that
I want it
every day
every night
every morning
We'll move back in May
We both feel really good about this
It feels right
It is...right

I am so happy for you two. Going back home where you belong.
Is there any way you could hook up to the grid to make life a bit easier for you both (especially in winter)? You'd still have all you love plus a few luxuries like running water, indoor toilet, etc. Just a thought.
Congratulations on your long marriage with all those kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. That is one big family! But.....you know....I saw something on the news the other day....a couple just celebrated their 80 anniversary! World record! He is 106 and she is 105. Gotta stay healthy so you can break that record!

Hattie. no we are maybe still getting the house.ha ha ha. well it cost 1500$in the woods to hook up if u show a permit to build a house or get a septic. then its 5000$ just to get hooked up to electric... we were thinking of lots of ways to make things easier. on the house.we were trying and trying to get to see in the crawl space and no one would let us get over there. so now we have the sellers fixing everything.we wanted to get over there and re roof the outbuildings.fix the electrical.and clean out the crawl space. i think they are leery for us to go on to the property for insurance situations. so we told them we are done spending.we have no more monies for this. so now they are waiting for the realtor to tell us we are still in the running for the house. thank u Hattie.

Cut some dang trees down and put in a small solar system. with lithium batteries of course.
And don't forget. the panels can go 200 feet away from the cabin no problem. Lots of 250 - 300v controllers now.
Yup.
And I do miss the wood stove. He says while he walks to the propane fireplace and turns up the heat.
Merry Yuletide as we approach that shortest day.

OK, I'm confused. If I'm reading the last few posts from Gary right, that's a complete 180 on where you want to live in less than 3 days.

Wow!! Is there any way you two can own a small home in the city and spend time at your cabin during the warmer months? We love our cabin and miss it a lot. There is no way we could possibly spend the winters there. The life is too hard for us that time of year being off grid. Solar would be very expensive because well, there is just not enough sun. It is so low in the sky. It’s also too expensive to live up there in the winter for many other reasons. Expenses are much lower in the city for us in the winter. Plus the windows are closed so we don’t hear a bunch of noise, no lawn mowers, weed whippers and the neighbor dogs can’t stay out too long so it’s quiet. Once it warms up and I open the windows I can handle the fact I’m in the city because I’m going to be getting out. I have a special quiet, peaceful place waiting for me after the black flies leave, lol.

Whatever choice, it is great to have options! We are all a fortunate bunch when I see some of the things going on around me...have a great Christmas you two! ...and it sounds like you actually need to keep the cabin as overflow for all those grandkids!

OK, getting caught up here. Must of missed a few post, but glad to see Gary headed back.
Trying to think of a way to get power without all that extra cost, how about telling them you want power for an RV hookup? Tell them its the big 50A service type. Self contained, septic or permit not required, you are living in the RV. so a RV hookup site.
Once RV space put in, run power to cabin. Looks like a Honda snow blower may be an additional item needed.
Also think an alternate heat source for the times getting wood in might be tough if you fall sick etc. (thinking a propane heater) Its a lot of work cutting wood in good weather to get through winters. Plus doing the daily needed chores in addition to that.
Creekys full solar set up sounds like a good option too.
And of course, the house in town for the harshest winter months wouldn't be a bad option either. Like short range snowbirds.

Thanks for the thoughts, Toy
Not too concerned about improvements, but

Definitely
as for solar...still watching for solar battery improvements
as for now, gennys are fine
We do have propane heaters, but prefer wood

Well, we hope to liven things up a bit. Come May, we'll be posting most every night while recovering from the day and collapsed in our lay-Z-boys. Gotta work off this town fat.
