well, Gary, we once enjoyed doing it all by hand too. these days that log splitter we picked up used for a hundred bucks years ago is our best friend. lol then a few years ago hub passed a snow blower out on a lawn for sale. another hundred invested, and it is our winter bestie. little to no effort to keep them in good condition. so 'what has happened to people?' isn't really quite fair. making the hard chores a bit easier doesn't mean we all got blubbery and lazy. plenty of other ways to keep that weight off. none of us want to think about it, but old bodies do give out a bit over time, right? so wonderful to enjoy what you're doing now the way you do, but don't rule out those helpers. no shame in them.

Quoting: abby old bodies do give out a bit over time, right? for sure
as I said, I have yet...to break down
talkin' mostly about younger folk that can, but don't....
and to myself
my snow blower days are a comin' hope to still be topside when they do (my body, in places, is beginning to resemble that weird plant)
but
I don't plan on ever using a hydraulic splitter
ever
keep a fire

here is my gal. she cuts thru the biggest oak & maple like butter. not for you, but you have to admit this is a nice piece of equipment. first the before, then after my hub made her like new again. we took down 5 big trees last summer, and with just the two of us I can tell you I could kiss this thing. lol looks like a beast, but hardly uses any gas. before

Gary O is getting the shops insides up and running.he has a bench made and its looking pretty good in there i must say. next he is gonna make a tool box for our truck. then i started to make ground a while back for the add on utility room. tomorrow i am leveling the ground more and Gary O can put the pavers down. after that i will level all the pavers. it sure will be nice to have a room off the shop where u can take off your dirty clothes...toss them in the washing machine and get a bath...inside!! also i have been making twig firestarter bundles.they are really nice for starting a fire. need to get more of those made up soon.

Could you two use some reclaimed building materials? Lumber and such? Let's just say that I may have plenty available right after Labor Day. Free, of course!

I discovered accidentally that pine cones are great fire starters. I had lots lying around and tossed one in our fire and it burned surprisingly long. Now I keep a bucket of them outside near the kindling for our outdoor fireplace.
It sounds like you two are really doing great out there! Can't wait to see pictures of the inside of that shop.

Ahhhh...so nice and clean. I remember when Bob's shop was like that. You'll have that shop filled up with tools and stuff in no time. It will be great having a space to do all your creating in. Start making your list of stuff to build cabingal3!!!

Wait til you get some paint and axle grease on your bench, Gary. They'll stop asking for cabinets. You could smear a little shoe polish on there for good effect as well, and spill a little beer just to give it that manly aroma.

I enjoy this thread. I'm envious of your off grid lifestyle and like to read about your adventures. Your ability to add humour to your posts is not unappreciated either.
If this one is worn out, you need to start a new one.
and beautiful job on the shop.
