note, retired people that now live in their cabins must have big slippers. I think it's a law somewhere.

Droppin' weight like no tomorrow. Folks have weight machines, go to gyms, tread on a treadmill. Seems the ol' chopping maul, and the occasional sledge hammer is doin' the trick...aaand a bit more productive. We demo'd the crushed camper on our property adjacent to our original parcel. Got real tired of looking at it. Hate eyesores. Not done yet, but today most the metal and goofy things s/be loaded up for recycle.
Some of you may recall these pics from a few years back;
Much more recent;
Airy alteration (room with a view);
Goin' down?;
Bottom floor (finally);
Tada dump;
Swingin' for the wall;

Well....I see we're telling stories again
Truth be told, t'wernt the first time. Lost 'em at the shoe store and wallyworld last week. Then there was that time at Helen's when lugging that humungous TV into her hobby room.
I really need to wear a belt.
Good thing I wasn't going commando...
Yeah, we gotta deal with all this weight loss. Cabi is literally swimming in her clothes.
Mine? Apparently they're getting weary of all the poop stains and attempting a move to my ankles...

Water
Is in
It was a bit of a struggle
Had to rely on the tiny town 25 mi south for a fitting and another length of 1 ΒΌ.
But
After gluing the wrong end a couple times, and a failed attempt at putting all 30 ft together and trying to slide all that in...
We got 'er hooked up.
But
Before all that, I woke to cabi hollering in my ear that she heard a cougar. They've been seen in the area the last couple days, two of 'em.
Love to get a pic of one
So, knowing it was gonna be a hot one, I trudged around in my slippers getting tools ready while she made breakfast. It was a good one And a big one
Giving me a cotton mouth most the morning. (I'm a good boy, I cleaned my plate)
The moment of truth was priming.
Took about 10-15 minutes.
Then voila
Cabi watered her garden, and watered, and watered, then watered some more...
Then
The water quit coming
Twice
I haven't ran for, oh, say, 20 years
Up until today.
My gait in acceleration is akin to the final struggle of a diseased yak...after wolves ate half it's hindquarters.
But I ran anyway..sorta
And shut 'er down
Our little 2K genny was at max, and she put forth a valiant effort.
I was hoping it was the little genny and not some other unforeseen horrible thing.
It was
I watched cabi water even the wild currants, as I wanted to make sure it was just the tiny genny.
I'm gonna say we ran it steady for 30-40 minutes.
I recall Just saying a few months back, 'run it a bit, to get the spiders out and give it a taste.'
That water, that water is the coldest, purest liquid I've tasted in some time, maybe ever.
We are a notch up today. However, not long after we did happy dances, the sky darkened and God started moving furniture around upstairs.
It rained
It hailed, hail the size of...large hail.
And it come down hard.
Then the wind picked up
And up
Trees snapped, big ones, and trees blew over, big ones.
Just missing the new pump, the big genny, the container, and the Wrangler. It's good to have a prayerful mate.
It's also a humbling thing to watch large trees go over when in a tiny cabin.
So, tomorrow I was gonna make a platform and build a tiny room.
Now?
Now I'm gonna chainsaw some trees to get to the pump and the large genny.
Maybe the day after that I'll start my jogging program.......riiiiiiight.

turkeyhunter.this is the first time we were in a storm where we actually heard trees snap in half and see them too. when we didnt live here...we saw the aftermath of these storms. thats the generator and the pump was barely missed too. well i have not been out to the garden to really inspect. ground squirrels are what i am getting rid of today in my garden. thankfully before the storm got into full swing ,i got my squash plants under cover. i am sure they would have snapped off. the tomatoes made it thru. we were doing so good on cleaning up debris about this place. now we have to start clearing up all the fallen trees again. we have water and we have firewood for winter.praise the Lord! thanks...

TH, that thought ran across what's left of my mind several times...after the blow. Thing is, we can see it comin' from the east, southeast and northeast. Anything from the west is a bit of a surprise, as Mt Scott and the cascades shadow our little paradise.
I scurried around to cover everything, and just in time. This one built up and kept buildin'...sheesh.
Then
It was gone
This morn was gorgeous. I woke to coffee by the bed, layin' there all rotten spoiled.
For decades cabi would have breakfast ready by 3:45 am. Now? I just slumber, and awake to a hot cuppa...wipe the sleep boogers and beard drool, then lay there considering what we've come to know as 'the second sleep'.
However, of late, I'm the one to trudge over to the main cabin to retrieve 'the second cup'...warming the camp pot, lookin' out the kitchen window.
This morning, as I looked out, a flittering moth caught my eye. Thought I'd kilt it with one swat. But no. Those durn things don't die easy...floppin' around spreadin' it's insidious moth makeup powder all over the counter.
Smat smat smat!
flutter
SMAT!
twitch
SMAT! SMAT! SMAT! SMAT!
ooze
Carefully lay placemat over moth guts
....don't tell cabi

It sounds like you two are having the time of your life out there!!! I'm so happy for you both! I'm glad the storm didn't take out anything important. More firewood for you now.
Quoting: cabingal3 ground squirrels are what i am getting rid of today in my garden. For the first time, we've got a problem with these little critters here too. We have a boardwalk running the width of the property so they run under it. Like a safe tunnel for them. It drives our dog, Molly, nuts!! She can see them moving and smell them, but she can't get them. Bob spotted two peeking over the end of the boardwalk yesterday. He's a really good shot with his air gun and managed to get a couple but it appears there are lots more.

Quoting: cabingal3 we need a dog or cat to get those little boogers. Our dog likes to chase them but that's about it. I guess she figures since she's a "bird dog" she isn't supposed to get the furry creatures. She won't even retrieve a rabbit when Bob shoots one hunting. If it doesn't have feathers she won't grab it. Geesh! Our guests have checked out today, so I'm guessing Bob'll be out there doing some target practice on them if they show their little heads.

just i would love to make a little ground squirrel stew.yum. we had the first meal from our garden tonite.i am so thrilled. i found lambs quarters growing. i cut off some kale,mustard greens,radish leaves,pansies,sage blossoms,cilantro sprigs,and crunchy pea pods and crunchy peas(the peas from the neighbor)and green onions from our garden and then a store tomato.it was the best salad...ever.next i think we will be having sqaush.hopefully tomatoes soon. some neighbors came over.they have been here since 1992 and they are just now planing their rhubarb.i am so proud to say i got mine in. the neighbor lady was amazed. another neighbor man is giving me jerusalem artichokes in the fall. also i have been seeing oyster plants growing all over.so i will be digging into them after the second frost. we are having fun neb.thanks Just.

H.O.T (!!!)
The last few days have been in the 90s. Today is s'posed to be 98 (F)...in the shade. (happily we won't be working in the shade)
We have a routine; sit, sweat.
In the morning we go about our chores, then commence to work together on main projects until we're at a finishing spot....or can no longer stand the heat. This week has been the pump house.
Yesterday, about 2p, we sat slumped in our camp chairs, staring at the floor joists.... 'what's next?' 'gotta true up the corners by measuring the diagonals' 'OK' 'yeah' 'ready?' 'yeah....soon' We remained... slumped 'Hookaaay, what say we put all this crap away and plop into the pool?' Two old people immediately regained new energy.
What a freaking relief!
Also, the last few days, early morn and late evening, has begat a hatch of biting gnats. These wee little beasties must be all mouth and teeth, as when they land, they inflict an irritating nip. In the early morn sunlight you can see thousands of them, berserkly skittering thru the air, morning go to work traffic...rabidly seeking out geriatric skin, apparently. So, of the early morn and evening, we can be seen slapping ourselves and/or randomly clapping the air in Tourette like fashion. When it gets to be too much we'll hose ourselves down with bug poison, but that's a begrudged maneuver.
Gonna be a hot one today.
Y'all keep cool.
We'll be basking in the pool by noon.

So, as my custom, I rise rather early, crank up the genny, and cruise thru SCF. Then mosey out to watch the sun rise and listen to the morning songs, standing there watching the glory of it all...pondering.
This morn was no different, with the exception of leaving the genny on so I could amble back in and type my ponderings.
Listening to that genny grind does not feed well into what's left of my mind. Writing didn't cut it this morn. Maybe it was the grating noise, maybe it's 'cause lately I make even myself sick from my ponderings.
So, I sit here, scratching myself, mustering up the deep ponder of; 'boy that feels good'
...I really need to get some solar hooked up.

or a REALLY long drop cord to your neighbors electricity...lol
at my Northern Maine camp...I had to convince the town hall to allow me to get electricity to the camp. Previous owner used generator....town hall said eagles nest was behind camp and animals living on BOG aka shoreline rules apply ....they did not want to allow power hookup...so I went in to office and did my spill...what caused the most disturbance to wildlife...powering up a generator OR flipping a light switch???...so I WON!!! amazing what a 25 lb bag of nice southern pecans will do to sweeten the deal..lol get more bee's with honey I got power hooked up the next day...before she changed her mind at town hall..lol
