I started this project roughly 3 years ago and have loved every weekend working on it. I started falling trees in February of 2012 and have been busy ever since. Hope you enjoy seeing my pictures as I have truly enjoyed seeing other members pictures and reading post. Learned Alot from sharing with others.

Very Nice Simpleman ! I could drop that right in my build clearing without a blink ! Nice to have storage underneath and safety from any possible flooding.

Thanks for all the comments, hoping to be able to put my growing family in it this next hunting season. If I new 3 years ago that today I would have 5 kids I would have built a bigger cabin. The reason that I built this cabin is most likely the reason everyone on this forum is building their cabin its a place that we could always go to as a family and make memories.

Sounds like you've had no trouble making memories without the cabin ! LOL Sorry , couldn't resist. Seriously though , cabin is looking sweet and the kids will love being there as much as possible at least till they get to their teen years , then all bets are off.

Simpleman, you have a Great Log Cabin a good wife and 5 children to enjoy it all with. Your truly blessed my man. Now you better start planning "Dads Hut" out in the back 40 for your personal "Meditation Shack".

What county is your property located? I have a friend that just recently bought acreage on the Pearl River, I think his is in Copiah County.

I was raised in Long Beach and used to hunt and fish along the Pearl river. Great memories. Enjoy your cabin Simpleman!

Front exterior of the cabin is chinked. Did I mention that this is time consuming! I'm pretty good at underestimating time to completion on projects.😉

This is one of the best log house designs I have ever seen - simple and elegant. I love to spend evening in this house by just watching the sunset. Please post some more pics of the same.

Simpleman,
Beautiful cabin!
What is the process for chinking?

The process that I am using is to first stuff gaps between logs with wool (treated with borates) or roxul insulation (cheaper). Important to have insulation that will repel water/moisture. Then I nail galvanized nails every 1" to 1.5" apart. Must use galvanized nails due to the lime in the chinking recipe which will cause nails to rust if not galvanized. The nails are what allows the mortar mix to adhere and stay in place. The chinking recipe that I use is 3 parts sand, 1 part Portland cement, and 1/2 part lime. Add just enough water so that you can ball up the mortar mix in your palm. I use a small 2" margin trowel to pack and spread the mortar mix on top of insulation through nails. So far so good. I researched using synthetic chinking but due to budget constraints went with the above. Difference in cost came out to close to 10k. I'll try and take more pictures of the process.

Simpleman,

Good call...we used permachink on our cabin and it must not have gone on right. its already started to separate after 5 years. Needs to be ripped out and redone, will probably go with traditional chinking.

Thanks Turkeyhunter, I could work every minute of every weekend but it's nice to take some time off from time to time to enjoy what the cabin life's about.

Finished Chinking the exterior of the cabin and with the dry weather was able to get a few concrete trucks in to pour my slab under the cabin. I don't know where I will spend the most time, under cabin or on porches.
