New member. My wife and I are building a cabin in Southeast Georgia. We had a builder put up the shell and are working on the plumbing and electric now. I have scoured this site for the past year and thank everyone for their posts. Ohoopee_2015.01.03_0.jpg

Thanks Tarmetto and OwenChristensen.
Just: The river is about 30' in front of the porch. In this picture it is about 2 ft above flood stage.

So in other words, sometimes you go to the beach and sometimes the beach comes to you.

Excellent way to put it Wilbour. Sometimes we canoe the river and sometimes we canoe the road in. Ohoopee_140829_000.jpg

My wife and I spent the weekend at the cabin. The river is still high so we canoed in. We finished a couple of propane connections and installed the framework for the outdoor kitchen counter. Ready for spray insulation.

turkeyhunter: Yes, we canoed the road. I am still searching for a good counter top material. Leaning towards solid suface, Corian but am open to suggestions.
neb: Thanks. Weekends only with with an occasional week long stay. We have owned the property for about 7 years and have averaged about 15 trips a year.

Have you considered using a concrete counter top ? You can buy the specially premixed concrete for that, not expensive and I have seen some might nice counters made with it... Depending on what's under it, only needs to be 1.5" thick or so.. Check out the images you can find via google...

I have thought about concrete but the cabin is 13 ft up on poles and it will move/settle. I am worried about the concrete cracking.

redoing my home counter tops with quartz....kinda pricey
I would have someone cut some heavy stainless steel/roll the edges/lasts forever....I use stainless on my counter at my hunting camps

It was a very wet winter and we were not able to get a truck in to do the insulation until about a month ago.

turkeyhunter, went up Thursday night. Extremely hot inside and it took a whole day to cool down with the windows open and a fan running. I didn't think we would survive the first night. So yes, the insulation made a huge difference. I think I am going to have to put in some type of window a/c to run off a generator for a few hours when we first arrive.
