I have been admiring and dreaming about a cabin of my own for a few years now. Well, my time has finally come! I have 12 acres not far from my house and thanks to a lot of help from a buddy and my 15 year old twin boys we are well on our way. As soon as I figure out how to post pictures i will show the progress that we have made. I have taken some notes from all the cabins that are on this sight and some of my own ideas and will hopefully end up with a nice place of our own to spend some down time. I am a bi-vocational pastor and i will be taking full advantage of a quiet place to study and prepare sermons. I will have no electricity or running water, so i will be needing some help with some (inexpensive) solar and generator suggestions. my goal is to eventually buy a quit little Honda.

Cool man, it will be fun for you, when i bought my cabin we re did the whole out side and inside, some of the funnest times ive had. Still lots more projects to be done you will never get tired of it. Good luck

I owe many thanks to my buddy Brad for all the hard work he has put in. I am more of a helper than a builder. I also should mention that i am afraid of heights. The roof pitch is way too steep for my comfort.

Started out with just a 6' loft, had left over material so we built a small 4' loft for storage. Now i am thinking about joining the two and making one big loft. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Nice place. What's your wall height and roof pitch? Also, I'm curious, what made you choose 12x16 over 16x16? Happy New Year!!

nscampgirl, I used 10' 2x4's for the walls and ended up with 8' of headroom downstairs and about 5'6" headroom in the middle upstairs. I started out wanting to build a 16x20 but because of money and after looking at a lot of awesome cabins on this forum I chose to go with 12x16. Not sure about my roof pitch, but guessing its close to 12/12 pitch. Thanks for looking and Happy New Year!

i never got any feedback or opinions, so i decided to connect to two lofts. It gives me a ton more room upstairs. I think it looks better and will serve a better purpose. More room for storage and more room for beds.

pdjohn, build looks good. I'm from Florence on the NW... now live in SW Florida. In the midst of trying to work out a deal for some property and a 1900's farm house, just outside of Florence.

I have a 10 x 16 with a full loft as well. My head room downstairs is 7` but with 5 windows it's bright so we don't feel cramped. Upstairs is just for sleep and storage. There's no standing. The idea is to spend as much time outside as possible.

it's been almost a year and the cabin is still not finished, but i do enjoy going and sitting on the front porch and relaxing.

I was looking at your site. Nice cabin! We built a 12X16 also but when we discovered how much the grand kids liked it, we added a "bunk room" on to the side that's 8X16. In Ohio, you can't use the loft for anything but storage if the wood stove is fired up because it gets so hot in the loft so that's why we built the additional room downstairs. Ours is not finished either and nothing fancy but I have a feeling of complete serenity when I'm there. It's only about 15 miles from home so we spend a lot of time there when we get a chance. It's primitive...no running water, no electricity but I wired the cabin and dropped a pigtail out the bottom of the cabin and take our 4,000 watt generator with us and use it when it gets dark until we are ready to turn in.
I hope you enjoy yours as much as we have enjoyed ours. I'm sure it would make an excellent place to sit down and sketch out a sermon..

OLD OLD BUDDY Thanks for the comments. Your site is where i came up with a lot of my ideas. Your place is awesome, I have been through every picture and post on your cabin. My place is only a few minutes from my house and not nearly as secluded as yours, but i absolutely love spending time there.
