Thank You. The only work that my wife and I haven't done personally is the spray foam. We had to hire that out.
The rest is with our own hands....so we are very proud!

we had another great weekend at the cabin! We had Friday off so we went up Tursday night.
Not much work this time but i did get the bathroom door hung. It came from an old house on my in-laws property and I bought the slider on Amazon.com
Then I installed and sink in our temporary cabinet/table and got the water hooked up.
I don't plan to build my real cabinets until next spring so this will work until then
The rest of the weekend we hunted and scouted out land. Pics to come! Approx 100 yr old door

Checking in with a few pics...
Really not much to report. The winter has been very mild here in Northwest Arkansas. We have been enjoying the cabin about every other weekend.
I spent 4 days in a row in it during deer season and got to hunt my property. I took a small 5 point but no big deer.
The plumbing, both water and sewer, has performed flawlessly. Having an inside toilet and a hot shower at the end of the day is a true blessing!!
Other than that we have been doing alot of trail riding, shooting guns and just enjoying the small cabin life.
Recently we started decorating, so Ill include those pics. Enjoy! A shot of the view on a brisk morning

I love to box idea for shelves, my wife dosent want cabinets on the upper walls and I have been thinking about just putting up shelves. We have alot of old barn siding incorporated in our cabin I could make boxes out of it and randomly mount them on walls. Great Idea! Thanks

Update-
I may have mentioned my wife and I are school teachers. Well we had this week off for spring break so we spent a lot of time working at the cabin!
This first set of pictures are of the "kitchen" cabinets we made. A good friend of mine and fellow mathematics teacher (retired), Bob Mooney, came up and built the cabinets with my help.
We used a combination of 2x4's, birch plywood, and rough cut pine. They are 8 foot long and will have 3 drawers and 2 sets of doors. I think they turned out great!
The top is temporary, of course. We are considering copper or maybe concrete. Building them in place

I had the privilege of teaching next door to him for 4 years and the knowledge he's imparted to me in immeasurable! Bob sizing things up

So the next day, after Bob's lesson, I felt emboldened and decided to build the bathroom vanity on my own. It turned out pretty good.
Then I started making some lights out of old license plates. My wife found this idea on Pinterest Bathroom vanity. On my own!

Lastly we built shelves in the kitchen and bathroom.
There was a board behind my cabin that had been there for years. It is pine and measured 2.5 inches thick, 12 inches wide and 35 feet long.
So I made the actual shelf from this board. The brackets are 3/4 inch black pipe, floor flanges and caps.
I really like how these turned out Kitchen shelves in black and white

That's it for now. We spent 4 nights and 5 days there this week. It was so awesome.
Cabin is getting closer to complete but really I hope it's never finished. I really enjoy spending time up there and working.

How hard is it to build the cabinets? We're thinking about building ours rather than buying. I just don't know if its complicated or not.

It was easier than i thought it'd be but I had a friend who has been doing carpentry for 40 years help me. I wouldn't have taken the project on solo
However, the cabinets are much nicer than anything I could have bought.

Pretty big update.
If you have been reading this you know that my windows came out of an old trailer house. To say they are insufficient is and understatement.
They're odd sized, don't work, no screens and zero energy sufficient.
I have been debating what to do with them. I could Have custom Windows made to fit the existing opening? Or replace with a more common size and better window. This would require new framing and disruption of the closed cell foam spray in insulation. Not to mention tons of work!
In the end, I decided I'm never selling this place so I need to do it right, do it once. So I ordered up 5 new 48"x48" single hung low-E Windows.
Now not only am I going to replace with a larger more common size, I am also going to add 4 new windows in 4 new places.
AND I'm going to move the odd low hanging window currently in the gable end of the cabin with a bigger, matching window.
Here's the pics Back wall of the cabin over looking creek. Solid wall here previously. Mid process...

This is the gable end and the odd low hung window.
The big Window on the left will be replaced with a modern single hung window of equal size.
The low hung window on right will,be discarded and a matching large window will be placed here. Of course I will raise and move the window location to match the window on the left. Why would anyone mount this window so low and off kilter from the other window?

Went up this weekend and put in two more Windows. Both of these actually replaced two exiting trailer house Windows.
Here are some pic...

YES Very Proud! He was pumped but he'e also pretty even keel.
He had a small window thru a sapling at about 40 steps. He shot it in the neck about 4 inches below the right ear. Off hand, no rest.
I was extremely proud of the clean shot he made. The deer didn't take a step

Just checking in...
Had a busy and expensive winter! I lost a $300 well pump to old age and a $150 Pex manifold that froze when my electricity went out for a few days and my space heater couldn't run.
Oh well (pun intended) such is cabin life!
Kayaking season is here so the cabin will be getting a lot of use. We have already been once
