Was always a dream off mine to have a little log fishing cabin on a lake like in the Terry Redlin paintings. This was the result of 4 years ( 2 summers just peeling logs). Im 6'5" and can stand up in the sleeping loft.We also added a 10'x20' screen porch. My family and I love it. I got alot of help from my dad and friends, but we did it all ourselves. My best guide book was "Building the Alaska Log home" And the cost was less than a new popup camper. me_and_u_161.jpg

Thanks much. Well Nirky. The roof is a purlin system with stick built gables. The roof is simply 2x6 tongue and groove laid on the purlins, the 2 inch foam on top of that, 3/4 plwood over that , tar paper and shingles. The span between the purlins is no problem for the 2x6 t&g. It makes up my loft floor as well. Heres a couple pics of loft roof from inside. aprilof09_021resize..jpg

Thanks for the info, it's a nice looking cabin. I figured it was probably dimensional lumber as there isn't a whole lot of room inside for log ridge pole supporting columns.

a few more pics showing inside and screen porch. I started life as just a covered porch off the front. Wifes idea to screen it in. Works well. Great place to sleep. aprilof09_004nesize..jpg

Are those 9 or 10 foot walls? What is the pitch of the roof?
